I have a big nut master cylinder with 2COA and the word drum written on the nut. It was removed from a HG v8 wagon with disc brake front. Why would it have drum written on it (did they make drum brake big nut master cylinders?)? Thanks.

It will have been rebuilt and configured for front disk brakes i would say , its on the black insert thats different .

Yes they made DRUM big nuts. Maybe the wrong big nut was put on it at some time in the past when it has been dismantled by a brake repairer.

as serbring said yes they did make big nuts for drum its only a insert in one of the outlet line threads that it differs and the stamping on the nut. so may have been changed years back by warranty or brake place.probably had it in stock changed the insert set up and wa la a disc brake master cylinder

I know that Melbourne built HT 307 cars had power assisted drums but Adelaide built had disc only for V8. Sebring, remember that 307 Kingswood I didnt buy and you bought?

Is the date code on the actual body from around the same time frame as the nut.
If not it shows that it has been re built from different parts at some stage.

So am I right in thinking a DRUM big nut master cylinder be easily converted to DISC? DISC ones usually sell for more on ebay. Maybe I could get a cheaper DRUM one and convert it?

^^^ Yep yep you sure can. They all need to be rebuilt and sleeved anyway, so when that happens you just skim the end off the big nut and stamp in what ever numbers and words you need.
