I was thinking of fitting a Commodore gearbox (auto, floor shift) to my HQ Premier, because I've heard stories of gear gear linkages jamming in the stock ones. It hasn't happened to me, but I'd still like to do the swap.
It doesn't have to be a Commodore box, it was just a thought.
If anyone knows what is required, explain it in simple terms please. I haven't been doing this mechanic thing for very long. Cheers.

I take it you have either a 3 speed manual or 4 sped in there now.

These can, with age, wear and cause two gears to TRY to be selected at once, which locks the whole lot up.

If you are changing to auto from these, then you will need the following:

Neutral safety switch. (on shifter normally)
Floor shift with selector on the left or right depending on the box you get.
Console insert if 4 speed
Light for console. (4 speed do not have light)
New brake pedal.
Kick down switch on accellerator pedal.
Vacuum attachment for inlet manifold.
Radiator with transmission cooler.
Transmission, left or right dhift to match shifter.
Coolant lines.
flexplate and bolts.

You can use your tailshaft, speedo cable, crossmember.

You need to remove the bush from the crank.

Warren just about nailed it for you. The only things I can think of as well are:

Console floor bracket if you don't currently have a seat separator or console in it and you want to run a HQ console. If you want to use a HJ-WB console you need the front and rear brackets (weld in).

Torque converter locator. This goes in the back of the crankshaft.
