Just wondering if anyone knows where I can obtain the kerb weight of a HK ute with 307 and possibly power glide. I'm looking for a formal document, one that I can present to the Blue Slip guy instead of having to obtain a weigh bridge certificate. I don't have a previous Rego cert. to offer to him.

The official figures are:

Belmont ute = 2754 lb/1249 kg (6-cyl man)
Kingwood ute = 2762 lb/1253 kg (6-cyl man)

Add 219 lb/98 kg for 307/Powerglide

These are from the HK ute sales brochure, from memory.

Thanks Dr Terry. Kerb weights don't rate a mention in the Workshop Manual or the Selling Manual. Guess I'll have to find a copy of the Sales Brochure as you suggest.

You can also look at the GVW plate on the HK commercial, and subtract the carrying capacity from what is on it. For example HR ute GVW is from memory 33.5cwt which is 1675kg gvw. Subtract the carrying capacity and this will give you the tare weight.

HK should be on passenger's side of bonnet lock panel. Must have beeen changed. To the letter of the law you should have this in place to rego it! It is a big square plate, maybe 100mm square.

When I transferred my HK from Qld to NSW the AUVIS guy told me that there is no official federal record of the weights and at the end of the day the only option is to visit a weighbridge, anyway the HK Prem sedan with 307/glide weighed 1440kg with an almost dry fuel tank. Same when I transferred my 1985 Viscount caravan from Vic to NSW, fee for a weight certificate was $8.50 at the local tip.

Greetings, Something doesn't sound right here. That might be the case now but back in the day Holden would have had to supply the weights for all their cars for the purpose of registration. Owners Manuals have every model listed for that purpose you would presume. Dr. Terry is right on the money with the total for a V8 ute. Kerb weight is the vehicle ready to drive with a full tank of fuel. Service Manuals also list the weights of the options available.

I thought I was going to have to provide a Weighbridge Certificate as well. However, a friend has just had a car registered. RTA (NSW) told him that he has to find out what the AUVIS guy wants, RTA don't require a Weighbridge certificate. AUVIS guy just wanted to see the weight quoted in a Brochure or Manual. Maybe some local rules apply here.

Couldn't find Kerb Weights in the Owner's Manual, but did find them in a Monaro Owner's Manual Supplement. (for the Monaro range of course). If there's such a thing as a Ute or Commercial Supplement, then the Kerb Weights are probably listed in there.

Does anyone have a Ute or Commercial Owner's Manual Supplement? A copy of the page showing the weights would be appreciated.

Rares have repro plates for ute and van, just be careful to get the right one as Rares list them as HK-HG generically. Not sure if there are different ones with different weights for V8 and 6cyl like HQ-WB do. I think these also disappeared once ADR tags came in so are only relevant to HK - mid HT.

Ute: http://www.rarespares.ne...ge.aspx?product=GWT1008

Van: http://www.rarespares.ne...ge.aspx?product=GWT1009

Based upon the 38.5cwt for the ute, this equals 1925kg (1 x cwt is 50kg).

Well, I reckon it's not up to the AUVIS guy.

They have to correctly identify the vehicle and to do that they have a guide book, this is where their info comes from and is what the RTA wants to see on the blue slip.

When I registered both vehicles (HK at Tweed Heads and van at Shellharbour) the RTA wanted to sight the weight certs irrespective of what was on the blue slip because their system did not provide the weights either. The RTA is very interested in what your vehicle weighs because the weight is taxable.

I probably just happened to pick two vehicles which were not recorded in either system.

Greetings, How interesting. Holden have been making utes for over 60 years so there should be plenty of data for these guys to refer to. It's not hard to understand that a ute is the lightest vehicle in the range so the weight is going to be less than the equivalent sedan or wagon. Does this mean that a ute pays less tax than a sedan? As for their system, it must be severly lacking if it doesn't have the country's most popular vehicles recorded in it. By the sound of this though, they won't belive what you present to them anyway even if it is from Holden. Good luck with all this and keep us posted.

Davo, which manual is that, there is no genuine HK/T/G workshop manual.

There are the 3 HK manuals an HT supplement & the later HT supplement with HG added, this one must be a generic Max Ellery's or similar, in which case the figures could from any model series & unlikely to be believed by the RTA.

Not quite on the ball Davo, but good enough for me.

See, I was looking for kerb weights of a HK ute, so I scoured the pages of the HK section of the HK HT HG Workshop Manual (the green one). Couldn't find kerb weights.

However, as sort of pointed out by Davo, the HT supplement of said Manual does list kerb weights, in the General Specification section.

So, I'll just present the guy with the HT numbers and I'm sure he'll be happy.

Thanks to all for your input.

It amazes me the amount of 'secret' Holden literature out there that only seems to of been accessed by two or three regular forum posters on here. I think it's time this so called literature that 'gurus' are referencing, to shoot us blokes down that live, drive and own the said vehicles, need to post the proof for all to see.

Greetings, Those figures are the latest HG weights. You already posted the correct HK weights earlier which is what the guy is after. An additional weight for HK is 80170 at 2855 lbs.

Something that may not be obvious to many on here, but the HK Series Shop Manual Supplement p/n 36572 is required for correct servicing of all HK models as it says in the front that this book brings all HK cars up to date with the latest information and tools. In this book is also the full listing of all HK models kerb weights as well as the weights of the options.

The only place I've come across HK commercial service information is in Dealer Service Bulletin H287 which must be used with HK Shop Manual M35954.

Greetings, What is so secret about GMH official publications? Look at my last post above where the part numbers are quoted. Surely you have all these items as part of your reference material for when needed.

And who the hell is shooting you blokes? Some people on here shoot their mouths off but that is all part of the fun of the internet, isn't it? You have to read between the lines to sort fact from fiction. Dr Terry is a straight shooter and I hope to be like him one day.
