to fully reco your ram it needs to be lathed apart. shaft re hardchromed(if its not too worn) etc then welded back together. dont tink youd get much,if any change out of $300.american cars used that ram type setup late 50s & all thru 60s, so th new repro ram is readily available & best option i reckon. if its made in china, they picked th better side of th street regards DD www.bellarineclassicautos.com.au

Take it to a machine shop that deals with hydraulics. They will part the bottom off the cylinder, then piston rod and piston will pull through the bottom. They will make new piston rod using hard chrome bar with new threads turner either end. Its either 9/16 0r 5/8th hard chrome bar from memory. Fit new seals then re-weld. You should see this done for under $200.00. If those new hydraulic rams on ebay are made in China, don't touch them. |

Why??? Thats like saying - Don't buy a Weiand Manifold, as they are now forged in China. Not everything out of China is carp!!!

I have done that repair several times, we just had the rod straightened & then hard chromed. It is a bit fiddly, but $200 sounds very cheap for 2012, who does it for that. I have several here that need to be reco'd now. Dr Terry |

I work for a Machine shop in Western Sydney. The majority of the work we do is producing hydraulics rams. We have tried importing rams from many different suppliers in China without much success. They are off extremely poor quality. |

I am the machinist and they are done in Sydney. Cheaper to use new chromax 9/16 bar then re-hardchrome. Its really not much of a challenge. So you have 6? |

OMG, the techno talk comes out. I was mearly pointing out that not everything out of China is rubbish. Electronic control and instrumentation is my field of experience these days, and it's all very good products coming from Asia, and the products out of China is very much up with anything out of Japan.
