Hi guys,
Picked up a HQ ute today - another project - painted red however seems to be deep blue underneath where the paint has peeled off.
Has a great bonnet - lovely 80's styled with XB GT Ford vents.
It is 202, 4 speed with banjo diff.
Can someone help decode the info below:
8/72
Paint: 5681314 Trim: 1821-22A Body: 46960-S Model: 80180QR VIN (?):CHQ46569S - i couldnt see the VIn on the chassis however this number was on the remenants of the rego sticker.
I couldn't decipher any of the other info as plates were covered in thick paint,
cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott.
The numbers that you've supplied describe an HQ 6-cyl Belmont utility, built in Sydney in August 1972. It was originally painted Glacier White & had a red vinyl interior.
The CHQxxxxxxS number is the chassis number, not the VIN, although the RTA now confuse the issue by referring to the chassis number as their VIN. Your chassis number is consistent with a 8/72 Sydney built HQ. The chassis number should also appear on the ADR compliance plate.
The GMH VIN is the number on the small (skinny) plate, if your car still has one.

Glacier White pictures can be seen here http://gallery.oldholden...olours/HQ/Glacier+White/Trim: 1821-22A Calypso Red/Black (bench seat) Leroy has no pictures of this to show you unfortunately. If it is still red and black I am sure he would appreciate a picture of it. Chassis C The third stage of ADR's for the HQ range. ADR means Australian design rules. HQ HQ series chassis. 46569 46569th HQ chassis made. S At the Pagewood Sydney Holden plant. Being Sydney built it should also have a number stamped into the firewall just above the heater box. It should be around the 46xxxS range. Cheers Paul.

Thanks guys - helpful information.
All tags are present however been over painted with red paint when resprayed and difficult to read. Their seems to be a coat of dark blue under that whic must be covering the white.
What is the best option to remove the paint from the tags without damaging them.
I couldn't read the seating capacity clearly - but looked like '2' - would you be able to get a bucket seat, 4 speed 202 in a Belmont - seems like a strange option.
Interior photos' - sorry all in black now so must have been changed during its' life.
Was thinking about doing a 70's custom just for fun, but think the kids have their eye on it as daily driver.

It can't be 2 seat capacity with A trim, it would be B trim with buckets.
HQ Belmont with buckets outside of Sandman and SS isn't all that rare as such. Not common but not that rare that you'd fall over when you saw it. It'd normally have a seat separator but with 4spd just rubber in between the seats.
HQ Pagewood tags will clean up OK but you'll probably have to remove them to do it properly. Otherwise careful use of paint stripper and a lot of rubbing. Mask around them with tape before attacking them. |
