I have just bought a HZ one tonner. 308 Red motor (apparently), T400 trans and 9" diff with disc brake rear conversion.

I just changed the oil and the motor sounds like a gatling gun. didn't put any oil in the oil filter or prime anything is that the issue?, I am buying an oil pressure gauge soon and will check that before starting her up again.

Has a Holley 600 on her but ran untill recently on nothing but gas, put petrol through it and doesn't seem to have any dry seals, engine also has tuning issues on petrol tho does run but the motor is idling at about 1000 revs (for the short while i had it running as the ticking noise scared hell out of me!!)

bloke i bought it off also said it was right to go and i drove it out, bout 10 mins down the road windscreen fogged up and moter started miss behaving. turned it off and it ran on pre ignition for a bit then stopped...all the water was gone out of the radiator.

Can anyone tell me what sort of damage I have done to the moter running it that hot and what sort of damage no oil pressure may have done also. (ran for about 10 mins without oil pressure and didn't drive it anywhere).

I have worked on vehicles before but dont know anything about holden V8's, have vowed to do all work on this vehicle myself, anyone who could help me would be greatly appreciated.

The high idle and the diesel-ing sounds like a vaccuum leak after the throttle. Are all the vaccum lines plugged of going to another source?

Normally an oil change would not need the filter primed. Did you hear it running before you handed over your hard earned?
The noise could easily be big end bearings gone bad or hydraulic lifters, which is still a pain but not as expensive.
