I agree WOW!
Amuses me to read some of the comments in the smh as to why somebody would give preferential treatment to a HZ.
I was an apprentice when these were new and a few things come to mind, first was a petrol price scare which saw a lot of the new V8s fire saled, second was that some people that were very passionate about holdens (football meat pies kangaroos and holden cars) and had trouble accepting the new opel based commodore. Third the HZ 253 V8 from memory had a different camshaft and when new sounded quite sweet or LAST maybe he was just too scared of the facings falling of the clutches and blocking up the filter in the traumatic. Either way holden should be seriously interested in this car if it is true that they do not have any kingswoods in their collection as the build quality of these were quite good. A good example of 70,s engineering.

It surprises me too that Holden doesn't want it, they'd buy it for $20k probably.

Its a great find,but I wonder if the owners considered how much work will be needed to turn this into a runner again before they set the asking price at $40,000.

It is recieving a lot of intrest. Many people will have told the family "that would be worth a lot of money" "its a collector's item".

But what do you do with it if you buy it?

Put it on the raod and use it? But then it will add Ks to it, things will wear out and have to be changed and then as no longer a time capsule. (see that one of the battery leads spring rings has already been changed)

Put it in the shed and take it out and polish it? Thats an awfull lot of money to just have sitting there.

Also how many "collectors" are there for it to be a collector's item. I know some that have a couple of cars, but collectors of cars is very few.

I would leave it as a trailer queen and take it to car shows if they are interested,where would you find another one like that,definetly a one in a how many were made.

Put it in a car museum. Its amazing, but its just a Kingswood. It was a bad investment in my opinion. If it makes $40000 it will not be worth a lot more than the equivalent new commodore today. Would have made more money with interest in the bank......

We have a 1977'ish Corolla at work that has only 1600km on it. Amazing time capsule, but no investment value.

That car is a SURVIVOR in the true sense of the word. Those POS on the cover and inside of Unique Cars magazine an issue or two back were not SURVIVOR cars by any stretch of the imagination.

Beautiful car this, and as Warren says just what to do with it apart from looking at it is another problem. It is only going to have the magical 3 digit low kilometres if you don't drive it.

An old farmer down our way had a wb ute... Factory 308 4 speed..... Bought new in canberra 1982 drove it doen to the south coast.... Covered it nad never moved it.... Had 232 kilometres on the clock... I wanted to buy it he told me he wanted 35k for it..... I said its not worth that much to me.... If i drive it its just another wb ute in 5 years time... He laughed and said find another one.....

I heard it has gone to sydney... Not sure how much he got in the end

I know that car & it is in Sydney. It now has 290 km on the odo.

I've no idea what the new owner paid.

Did it still have the 4 poster bullbar that the dealer fitted on it...

Same old farmer still has a portsea blue eh premier, white leather interior... Mint condition... Probably the best eh i have seen...

That HZ is a car that never got driven. Its survived a life of doing nothing.
Those falcons have survived unrestored as daily drivers, they are in their real world working clothes.
It all depends if are describing a real life car in the real world, or what a judge is looking for at a car show I suppose.

I've seen quite a few 5-litre WB commercials. Even though they were not officially available. GM-H did make them for 'special' customers.
