I came across and purchased what I think to be a rare HT Panel Van yesterday. It is a 5/70 Adelaide build, Kashmir White on Red interior. It is a 186 with column Trimatic auto, disc brakes and Deluxe heater. Definitely all original driveline and paint etc. Although I am well aware the HT was available with the Trimatic auto late in the model run, I have never come across one apart from Broughams and the odd Monaro GTS. I was just curious if anyone else has come across, owned or remembers a Trimatic in a Commercial HT.

I've never seen one. A trimatic Brougham would be very rare though as these were supposed to be 308 Powerglide. |

At my first job back in 1970, we got an HT Trimatic ute as a superseded model after the HG was released. I think it is the only HT Trimatic commercial I've ever seen.

no such thing as a factory trimatic HT brougham. same as no 307 factory fitted in HT brougham. trimatic was introduced end march 1970, & ive worked on several of these HT prems & kingswoods with tri. cant recall ever seeing a HT commercial wit tri, (actually, only ever a couppla p/glide kingswood utes)but i guess theres no reason they wouldnt have. i guess only a build sheet could 100% verify. ive fitted trimatics in several HK & Ts & made then appear factory regards DD www.bellarineclassicautos.com.au

pretty sure that green HT Brougham on ebay we discussed at length davo was trimatic, and the seller was adamant it was as well, really should have gone and looked at it

OK, it appears I've made a mistake. Upon further, closer examination, I don't think it was factory fitted with the Trimatic. I think the underdash bonnet cable bracket that has been screwed to the firewall to retain the firewall accelerator rod is the giveaway. The column has been replaced making it a bit obvious too. The van is 5/70 Adelaide built. Crossmember outrigger has 8D0 (8th April 1970). Three tag car with matching numbers to firewall. Steering box is 5KO (5th Oct 70) so that must of been changed. Also the engine number is 186P1657XX which tells me not the original motor as that number range would be HK. The head date code K150 (15th Oct 70), coincidentally matching the steering box but not a match to the block or the car. So turns out I own a plain jane white HT van. Doesnt matter because I only bought it as a wreck for the shell. |

I think the best indicator would be the factory trimatic badge, they only seem to be used on HT. I have only sen 2 in my time.

That's the other thing that threw me Warren, it had a trimatic badge on the lower tailgate. Lower drivers side. I'm not sure on the correct location for a Trimatic badge on a HT, I've only seen them on the passenger side rear of HG's. It has an auto pedal so I'm going to have to investigate further. |

Is the trimatoc badge in the same spot where a powerglide badge goes on a HT Belmont or Kingswood/Monaro? |

Brougham do not have powerglide badge so I am talking Belmont/Kingswood/Premier.
The one I saw on a car was left side of the bootlid.
It has three triangles, one inside one and another inside the other, with TRIMATIC after it.

I don't think HT Premier has it either Warren, they don't appear to get a Powerglide badge. Only Belmont and Kingswood/Monaro. |

There was only one Trimatic badge available on a Holden. The HQ one is the same as HG |

Sorry guys, but the 'triangle' Tri-Matic badge is a real Holden part (P/No, 2807841). To my knowledge though it was only used on early LC. I believe that they were originally a Vauxhall item. They were seen in production from LC release (Oct 69) until around Mar/Apr 70, long before Tri-Matic transmissions were fitted to late HTs. They don't belong on HT/HG.
The Australian style badge (P/No. 2817175) was used after that.
The pic on oldholden doesn't look quite right. The sample I have is the same in appearance as an HR/K/T Powerglide badge. It has black lettering on a brushed alloy background. The font is the same, it's just the wording & the added triangle that make it different.

Yes Terry, the badge I saw was simular, but not the same, the three triangles is the one I saw and as you described.
I have seen it on one car. Ben told me it was from HT years before I actually saw one. (research since may have found different. So am happy to accept that they were only LC, and the one I saw was put on by owner)
