Hi

I am a bit confused about what is the correct Booster for my type 2 HK 327. It is a Brisbane built car.

The booster in it is an Aust made PBR VH312 (see photo). I reckon it is correct. I've been told by a very knowledgeable friend that it should have the booster with the big blue check valve. I feel that would be the VH300 which has the pivoted pushrod but I am informed the VH300 was changed for a straight pushrod booster early in production.
I understand that my car sat in the Brisbane plant fully assembled but waiting for an engine for some time. Aparrently there was a shortage of engines or something????

Could this mean my car was actually an early build car and fitted with the second type engine and a few other bits and peices????

I do not know the build date of my car.

Just trying to get it right.

I am far from an expert on these things but I think there is almost no chance that that 312 booster was factory fitted to your car. The boosters with the small valve hole were not introduced till late 1970 so you find both types in HT.

I also think it highly unlikely that it was originally fitted with a VH300 as most of those were matched to the offset pushrod mounting bracket. If your theory about the car being originally fitted with the offset type is correct, the fact that it now has a direct pushrod type on it would mean, in all probability that the inner guard has also been changed and the brake pedal has either been changed for a later one, or the original has had an extra hole drilled in it for the direct pushrod.

The most likely booster for that car, in my relatively uneducated opinion would be a VH305. These are direct pushrod type, with the large valve hole and are very common in HK.

I guess you will have checked date codes on the front crossmember, steering box, 'big nut' on the brake master cylinder, the arms up under the dash that connect the wiper motor to the windscreen wipers all of which, if original, can provide a clue to when the car was built.

There are many others on here who ought to be able to provide much more authoritative advice on this question tho

I agree that it should be a VH305. I spoke with a few people in the know including Ben and I am sure this is the case. The Vh312 is correct for an HT.

No probs Nick. Another example of how valuable these forums can be. Having confirmation of the 305 for yours now actually also helps a friend of mine to get his as correct as possible too.
