Hi all. Lovin driving the VH around with the EFI in it. Absolutely rips! Thanks again to Dr Terry, Commodorenut, Byron and everyone else who were amazingly knowledgable and helpful!
A quick (hopefully) question...
The syncros in the T5 are a bit dodge and it constantly grinds going into 2nd and 5th. Prob will suit a rebuild at some stage, but the mrs has also been hassling me that she cant drive it (cos shes a girl and doesnt like manuals...)
So I was wondering will the T350 bolt behind the 304? I have the original G/box here plus the Xmember, tailshaft section, shifter, pedal box etc.. I dont wanna go to auto really but I figure if the T5 needs work down the track, i might look at going back to auto as an option..
Also she got me thinking when we were at bendigo all holden day on the weekend, and she said, "see, if you didnt convert the commodore to stupid manual then i could have driven that and you could have bought the sandman too...."
Hmmm. That idea i like...

Yes, engines are identical as far as TH350 is concerned. 4L60 and TH350 use the same flexplate too. The only difference between the VN onwards 304 block and the HJ-VL block other than cosmetics (and bellhousing bolt pattern on manual and 1981 onwards blocks) is the lack of the 4 x valley head bolt bosses. So it'll all bolt up. Make sure you take the TH350 to an auto shop for a service before you use it, so they can change the rubber seals, torque converter seal, yoke seal and filter. Will only cost $90 or thereabouts and well worth it. Dominator sell a recoed torque converter pretty cheap too, I got one for the Premier with a slightly higher stall to offset the 2.78:1 diff a little, it was about $200 or so. |

As per what Byron said, but you may need the speedo drive from a VN/VP T700R4/4L60 to interface with your ECU. |

Great. Thanks Byron and Mick. Knew you guys would be all over it!
Im glad that sounds reasonably straight forward then. Just have to sort out the speedo and prob get the tailshaft rebalanced etc. The worst part is contemplating changing the pedals back over again. That was about the worst part of the whole EFI conversion!
Its not something im looking at straight away but I might do it down the track when the T5 gets tired.
Cheers.

Speedo is easy, just use the original TH350 speedo cable. If the T5's speedo output drivs the speedo on teh car corrrectly then the original TH350 will too, so it'll all be fine (ie speed sensor will get the same pulses per kM). If not, just get another Memcal written with the right PPK constant. |

Cool. yeah i still use the original speedo cable which runs into the pulse convertor. As long as the thread etc out of the T5 is the same as the T350 then hopefully thatll all match up. I had a guy here in ballarat rechip the car though so he might need to tweak it to the auto.
Otherwise all good! And Ill be able to take the sandy and commy to car shows!
