The mixture screws are wound out 3 full turns,wind them in any further and the engine stalls.it was reconditioned when I brought it and has run like that from day one,its a 350 holley with a 500 base plate,the screws should only be about 1.5 turns,any ideas,thanks.

It's not one of those Holleys with what they call "reverse idle" screws is it?
The more you let them out the leaner the mixture gets when you have reverse idle screws. |

Have not see one of them Jim,are the metering blocks different to look at.I will take the bowl off n compare it with another block,thanks.

I got caught with one once. The only difference that I could see was that mine had the remains of foil stickers around the idle screws which were too far gone to be able to read that they said turn in to lean mixture but that's what they said once. Stickers unfortunately can be removed.
Holley's web site in the US is very helpful. I once sent them the catalogue number of an oem Holley from a Chrysler 360. The next day they got back to me telling me that I had a 380cfm Holley originally fitted to an early 70's 360 destined for Australia.
