I have an Accessory book for the hk Holden, on one of the pages is reads as follows...

HANDBRAKE WARNING LAMP
Fits into instrument cluster, flashes red warning light to driver when handbrake and ignition are on.

Question is, all that I have seen are not flashing like the eh hr ones, now being an accessory book like a left hand mirror I know its an added option, but has anyone ever came across a hk hg ht flashing handbrake light?

Hi there, all except the hand brake warning bulb are the wedge type. The hand brake light is in a separate harness with a black socket that pushes into a hole in the cluster housing. I remember this well as the bulb blew in my old HK GTS many moons ago and I was surprised to find the bulb was not like all the other HK dash bulbs.

The HK accessory was the end of the flashing bulbs as I understand.

Sorry D.A.Barnes, the HK instrument cluster has T10 wedge bulbs in all locations in every HK instrument cluster that I've ever owned, I think you may have had one of the flashing bulbs as described earlier in this thread or someone has modified the harness in that car.

From the factory there is no separate harness in either VDO or Flexdrive clusters, there are 10 black sockets and they all contain T10 wedge bulbs.

I too have seen the flashing handbrake light using a BA9 type globe in HKs.

I think what some dealers have done, at customer request, is to fit an HD/HR NASCO handbrake light kit (which does fit, I've done it) so that the light flashes as is does in the earlier cars. Many owners preferred the light to flash. The earlier black plastic socket fits into the wedge socket hole. I've also seen it in HT/HG. I can't see somebody doing this to a GTS though, remove the factory item to fit an earlier item ??

BTW the first model series to feature a flashing handbrake light was EK, not EJ . Its part no. was 7413720 for EK & then changed to the EJ/EH item (p/no. 7418935) as it was very similar.

I think the HK accessory brochure (in the first post) was incorrect though, they probably just carried over the text from the HR brochure.

Be careful with the dodgy cheap flashing globes on ebay. I replaced my daily driver handbrake warning light globe with one for the hell of it. It lasted only weeks. It didnt have even intermittent flashes. It was all over the place. Waste of money.

Hi, I just came across this forum and thought I'd let you guys know that I have some of these flashing handbrake warning globes / bulbs.

The ones on eBay are poor quality and have an electronic flasher that flashes at a constant rate. The original bulbs that I have, have a bi-metallic spring fitted internally that heats up when powered on and "flicks" to short it out, then it instantly cools and springs back to turn it on again. This causes the bulb to flash at a random, unpredictable rate that cant be replicated by an electronic one. Who would want electronics in their old Holden anyway, right?!

My Dad owned a panel shop and when he retired about 5 years ago we cleaned out his shop and I found this box of 10 bulbs in the back of a cabinet where they had been since the 1960s - they are genuine NOS - the glass is thicker and you can tell just by looking at them that "they don't make them like this anymore".

I put one in my EJ Premier 5 years ago and it's still going strong. As far as I know, this type of bulb is not made anymore and not available anywhere. I've got 9 left but I'm only willing to sell a few. Any ideas on what they might be worth?
