News hasn't filtered through yet, asking price is still around the $600 for a set of these repro's on ebay, and the originals are still in the bargain basement.

Further to my earlier Post, I have now spoken to HGV8 for further information and we are currently investigating this matter further.

Thank you all for the posts received on this issue. Rest assured, Rare Spares is committed to providing products of the best possible quality and are taking this matter very seriously.

Thank you for all your comments and will post a full update shortly.

Lance if they were withdrawn from sale some time ago due to this problem what is there to investigate? Surely "the investigation" happened when they were removed from sale? With all due respect if your removed them from sale you obviously recognized there was a problem at that time. It is simple - safety recall, refund money, compensate owners for any damage caused, fix problem and put back on sale.

Hi, went and had a look at mine and they are doing the same with the outer skin pushing against the valve stem. I wonder if they are offering the same refund as above to all people including all additional costs.

I have to travel 2.5 hrs to my closest RS and 2.5 hrs back. I was not happy with the colour and had them repainted with correct colour paint and that was not cheap.

Do I directly contact Les or do I contact my local RS??????

I just cannot see my local RS comming to the party with the additional costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and if not I will be really disappointed as I as well as others spend thousands of dollars buying their products in good faith.

cheers

Steve

This is a very interesting situation concerning reproduction parts that should be classed as critical for vehicle safety. These hubcaps are one thing but I am more concerned about wheel nuts. Failing wheel nuts are potentially far more dangerous than a rapid tyre deflation, although neither are on your wish list when out on the road in your pride and joy.

My question is are the HQ sports wheel nuts sold by Rare Spares made by the company who made them in the first place or are they suspect Asian parts like these hubcaps?

Original wheel nuts would have passed many critical tests before they were fitted in production. Have the Rare Spares wheel nuts also being through the same testing process?

A guy from Sydney sells what he claims to be the best HQ sports wheel nuts in the world. They are pure rubbish. The chrome comes off on initail tightening with the Holden wheel brace. That's a real worry when this guy openly rubbished the Rare Spares product!

I need a mint set of wheel nuts for my car and am now having second thoughts buying the Rare Spares items even though the company claim that their parts are equal to the original GMH items. If they are made by the same OEM supplier then this would be true. If an Asian company makes them then who knows what they are like.

And what about wheel nuts for earlier Holdens? Same situation?

As promised by Lance Corby, replacement GTS trims/hubcaps have arrived from Rarespares. Will give these a try and keep an eye out to see if the problem is solved. I must add, Lance was very apologetic on Rares behalf and was trying to replicate the problem I had with some older stock caps that were withdrawn from market.

How long ago did you buy your GTS trims? I bought mine well over 12 months ago.

Further to my earlier post, I can advise that Rare Spares has implemented a recall program in relation to the Wheel Trim.

On further investigation, there have only been two isolated incidents which have led to flat tyres. However, RSP has decided to take this action for all applicable Wheel Trims as a precaution.

Customers who purchased the applicable Wheel Trim (black centre - WT1003) for HG Monaro GTS, and Wheel Trim (red centre - WT1002) for HK HT Monaro GTS, are invited to contact RSP to arrange the return of their Wheel Trim for a free replacement set.

The recall is being conducted in accordance with the ACCC's recall guidelines, and the ACCC has approved the recall action.

For further details about which Wheel Trims are affected and RSP's contact details, please click this http://www.rarespares.net.au/Pr...ct%20Safety%20Recall.gif.

Hi Dave,

My wheel trims didn't severe the valve (thank goodness) but they trashed the valve caps. The photo below paints the picture. Might depend on what type/length valve stem is being used. As indicated in a previous post, I glued the inner to the outer and lined the sharp edges with small profile pinch weld once I realised there was a problem with the wheel trims.
I'll be sending mine back. What turn around time can I expect from RSP?

Sometimes takes a lot longer in the real car world. Toyota have just issued a recall on Camry's and Yaris's from 2008 to now in regards to electric window switches possibility catching fire. Thats 4 years so 12 months maybe isn't too bad. Not trolling are you glotnik?

no keith, i'm not trolling, are you? They knew about the problem at least 12 months or so ago and the recall should have been almost immediate. When did toyota find out about their window switch problem?
Waiting a year before telling anyone they are an accident waiting to happen is a disgrace.

Oh I'm sorry glotnik, I didn't know they knew about this problem 12 months ago. Just re-read all the replies here and can't find where it say's they knew about this problem "at least 12 months or so ago" except in your reply. I don't know how long Toyota knew about their product being faulty, but seeing I have 2 cars here affected, I took notice. Seeing it costs alot of money to issue recalls, I guess Toyota knew about it a long time before they were "forced" to issue a recall. They get "forced" from many customers complaining about the product before it happens, a little bit like the hubcaps here in question. I do not work for RS or have their hubcaps, but what I'm reading here, RS seem to be doing the right thing in regard to the hubcaps, but again you may know something different.
Cheers and have a mighty fine weekend.
