Thanks HK1847.

Thought it was a later one, but I didn't know for sure.

True & it would also be minus the other 253 V8s in that short timeframe, like wagons & Premiers etc. & the 308s would be Brougham only, so a very small number indeed.

I would assume the marketing dept. would've put in a firm order for the production of 5000 units with 3-sp all-synchro boxes, so they were probably all made in one continuous batch & shipped to the various plants.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

I don't know if they'd be all one batch, but I suppose they might have been. Engines would have been built and supplied to the assembly plants according to the rolling schedule, and at that time all 253's would have been manual engines so it makes sense that the bulk of the engines in the white hot specials would be in a certain sequence of engines. But the actual usage of engines at each plant is seemingly beyond random, they just appeared to just use the next one inside the door of wherever they were stored so to speak. Were the white hot specials all from one assembly plant, or were they scattered across all of them?

Mark

Can you PM me through the number? i'll pass it onto Ben - as many of these that can be collected with cast dates helps with the puzzle.

The closest I have in my V8 number collection is 308H1196X, dated K39 (3rd Oct 69).

All the numbers I have collected seem to be in order. There are no early dates with high numbers and vice versa.
Has she got no 253 casting on the block ?
I would like to see that blocks rods and crank if it's original.
