Hi

Could not go this year. Have heard nothing but I, like many would be most interested to hear some news and hopefully see some photos.

Cheers Nick.

We just got home from the nats. It was nice to have only a 3hr drive this time.

Location was great and weather gods did their bit.

130+ cars on show and as with any show, there were plenty in the car park.

Great to catch up with some old friends as well as make some new ones and put a face to a name!

I learnt more about my car from some very knowledgeable folk.

Bar was set even higher in the Factory Authentic and Concurs classes, so roll on Barossa Valley 2014 (rumour has it that all entrants get a bottle of Grange!!)

The show was great and while only 130 cars the guys and girls from the west had some great cars that have been hidden in the west for many a year, so it was good to see some cars that i have never seen before.... I have attended every nationals since bathurst in 2006 so my fourth nationals... And whilst the cars in concours were very nice examples the bar was definatley not set higher in fact if anything it had dropped a little since warwick....

I say this only because the car that won was also at warwick where it did not win and had no significant changes in the last few years.... So how can the bar be raised.... Just my opinion....

I think the HQ coupe was the standout car in concours... But again just my opinion...

HQGTS,

i stand by my comment that there were some sensational factory authentic cars in HK, HT, HG and HQ.

Concours is harder as there aren't many of them around. Don't forget that Warwick only had three entered. I loved the aqua coloured HQ LS but he had a stereo fitted and this could be seen so the orange HT was the best all round example and deserved the gong.

Bullitljv8, be careful of listening to gossip and spreading vague rumors. Who did you hear this off and what was the car?

Yep.... I didnt mention factory authentic and yes there were many fine examples of all models.... I said concours... And the car that won was the same car that didnt win 2 years ago so I stand by my opinion that the bar was NOT raised....

Btw the car that won should not have even been in concours.... But thats another argument entirely I guess

Not wanting to upset anyone, but everyone who has a Monaro was invited/ allowed to attend the event. If people choose not to attend then they have no place in bagging the guy that won! He can only compete against those that bother to show up.

As the old saying goes, "ya gotta be in it to win it!"

And please don't give me the Busselton was a long way, too expensive etc line. That car has attended three eastern state nationals and i cant recall the owner bitching about the winners and or the expense of getting there.

i spoke to most of the eastern state delegates and they turned the trip into an adventure to do something in a classic which they may never do again. Many of them are on their way back by either road or in style on the Indian Pacific.

So lets lay down the challenge at 2014 and get a dozen concours cars there! I bet that can't be achieved

Lol....... So whats your reasoning for a 50% drop in entrants then if not distance and or cost....

Don't know if I'd put my car on the Indian. Stone chips, broken windows, diesel and brake dust residue. Yep, I wouldn't put my car on that.

Hi Guys, sounds like it was a great event, we attended the first 4 Monaro nationals and all were great, one side note to this thread is that a Monaro enthusiast (Aiden Ashcroft) was Tragicly killed in a vehicle accident 2 weeks prior to this event, Aiden and his family were on holidays in WA enjoying the things we all love about this country, his Monaro was on route by truck from Sydney.
Sorry to put a damper on this, Aiden was an dear freind.
Paul.

what s***s me is they charge a couple hundred bucks for entry and $10 for spectators and they can never be arsed putting a list of winners on any of their websites. its common courtesy, especially when the spectators cant attend the awards dinner so have no idea who won the peoples choice that they voted on, apart from searching the rumour mill. Slack.

Hi Paul, Yes it was very sad news and I think everyone was affected in some way when we each heard. I was very honoured to win the Aiden Ashcroft Memorial trophy and will treasure it for ever!
