Hi all.....I bought a pair of outer tie rod ends off ebay to suit HQ-WB part no 9931634. They were advertised as genuine and came in the genuine boxes but I'm not sure they are genuine. They have TRW stamped into them and they are not greaseable - ie. they do not have a grease nipple. Are they genuine? Did TRW make parts for Holden? Were Holden ones greaseable? I need to know asap so I can make a complaint if needed.
cheers in advance
Dom

Hi Dom .

Components such as tie rod ends etc were made for Holden by TRW.
The earlier version would have had the grease nipple on the side of the tie rod end housing never underneath .
The last batch of tie rod ends that TRW made that were put in to Holden boxes were a sealed type unit with no grease nipple .
At a guess your tie rod end would be in a plain white box with a GM label ?
Hope this helps .

Regards Julian .

There are lots of variations on genuine Holden parts. The rear spring hangers for HQ-WB are an example. In a holden box, but nothing like the original item. Still a Holden part though.

What LC870 has said is spot on. GM-H's replacement parts will often be different to the original 10 or 20 years down the track, for many different reasons.

BTW there seems to be a preference for greaseable joints over the sealed type, especially from DIYers.

I can tell you after 4 decades in the trade that a modern sealed rod end will outlast the old style many times over.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Talking of differences, I bought a pair of front indicators assemblies in 1990 from the local dealer, over the years you lose the little chrome strip on the lens so in went to buy the lens approx mid 90's and there is no way they would fit, and they all were in the holden boxes. I'm sure my front bumper was Thai made in a holden box. Cheers
