Does anyone know who manufactured the sound systems in the BA to BFs? I'm also wondering if there is an owners manual that can be viewed online? I'm bored and just felt like reading one before I pick up the car in the next few days.

Cheers guys,
Paul.

I don't know who made them but you cannot remove them as they are integral. You probably already knew that though.

Yeah knew they were a package deal. Don't have any intention of upgrading it, my days of putting in big sound systems are well and truly over. Was just a bit curious as I remember back in the old days Pioneer did the XDs and XEs and correct me if I'm wrong ( probably am ) did Alpine have a stint in the Ghias around the EB era?

I thought ford dropped pioneer for Philips built could be wrong. Iv got a nc2 that I'm pretty sure is alpine.

Not that you said you wanted to but upgrading them is very easy

Hi Cav,

Had an XE Ghia and it had a Factory Pioneer radio tape deck. Still had the manual for it until the last clean out. Recall a philips unit in my mum and dads XC and it had the Ford logo on it. The car I've put the deposit on has the premium sound system in it so I'm sure it will be good enough for this little black duck.

All three of my old EB2 GLi's had the Phillips systems with absolutely no knobs (I loved them) and Pioneer speakers all round.

Yes the EB Premium sound would have been Alpine in the EB, NC, DC & ED they were 1.5 DIN high from memory.

When the original stereo died in the second EB I replaced it with a Sanyo and discovered very quickly that good as they were the factory stereo was not capable of driving the Pioneer speakers to anywhere near their full potential.

The EA's and EB1 GL and S had a Phillips system with rubber buttons exactly the same as my TP Magna had. In the TP the stereo beeped every time you pushed a button. This was very bad when I fitted the Magna with a 100 watt amp LOL.

I added a JVC which plays MP3 discs and Ipods to my BA because the CD stacker will not accept a disc which is such a common problem they are not worth fixing just to have them break again.

The JVC is plugged in through the factory stereo's AUX input so that the steering wheel buttons still control the volume. If only the factory stereo had a trigger out for say an electric antenna then I could wire the JVC to also work in keyless mode and turn on and off with the ICC.

In a nutshell, "Premium" sound in the BA simply means a colour screen (reminiscent of the old CGA days), tweeters in the front corners, and a sub & amp in the back. Normally this was part of a "luxury pack" that also came with leather seats.

I don't know what brand the amp or other parts are, but if you remove the boot lining in the rear 1/4 panel, you can access the amp - it may or may not have a manufacturer name or part # on it.

I have a couple of AU era premium sound amps, and they are unbranded, but the alloy extrusion shape of the case is the same as the consumer-grade Pioneer amps of the day.

The BA/BF is pretty flexble with it's audio - it's easy to add an aux-in (for an ipod or the like) and integrating an aftermarket bluetooth phone kit is also easy - the plugs for both are above the fuse box.
Cheers,

Mick

Thanks heaps guys. Yes the car has partial leather interior. looks pretty good. Picked up some bowdens leather cleaning stuff today. I'm getting eager to get my hands on it and give the thing a good detail. All the public holidays have delayed proceedings. Speaking of which, hope you all had a great Christmas and here's to a far better 2013 for us all.

Picked up the XR6 yesterday. Gotta say I'm liking the car. Neo blue, 6 speed auto, leather with seude inserts, side air bags, premium sound that doesnt sound that bad. 2 questions though. The fog lights appear to be a bit on the loose side. How do I adjust those? And the fuel lid ( worked yesterday, not today ) won't lock. The little latch inside is swinging loose. does it latch with a spring or does the solenoid lock it?

The fuel doors lock with a spring. Do you have a warranty?

Are you sure that it's premium sound and not prestige sound?

No warranty. Brought it private. I'll try and fix the spring. Lets see, 6 cd stacker, colour screen, tweeters in the pillars and a sub behind the seats. Is that prestige or premium Jim? I'm still learning.

That be premium. Does it also have the Sat Nav? If so you will see a DVD drive in the boot under the parcel shelf.

I'll have to have a look. In all honesty I just whacked in a couple of cd's. Havent even tried to adjust the bass or trebble yet. All I've done so far is hit the leather with Bowdens leather cleaner and gone into work to use the industrial steam cleaner. Did the seat inserts, carpet and mates. Took 3 hours but was worth the effort. Gave the car a wash and saw the water just sat on it and the paint was feeling very dull to the touch. Got out the polish and only got as far as the bonnet. Keeps coming up hazy. Think it might have paint protection but it's pretty cactus if it has.

Still havent looked in the boot to see if it's got sat nav. mental note to check that. noticed the fog lights seem a little bit loose. If I undo the black plastic under the spoiler will that give me access to them so I can see what's going on there? Oh and had a fiddle with the fuel flap lock and its now locking. :)

Looked in the boot Jim and found the compartment for the DVD drive but it was empty inside. Looks like I might have a handy little storage comartment there that I didn't know about.
