I have seen early commodores running the bigger rims but just want to know if there are any mods needed to do this.

I have a set of HSV VT Clubsport rims 17" with 235/45/R17 tires, fitting them up to the VC the inside edge rubs on th McPherson strut. These tires are also have 50% rubber and look as though they may touch the bas or the spring seat.

Is there a trick to fitting these ?? Is there a differance in the McPherson strut in VN/P series and should I fit them instead ??

all sugestions appreciated Cheers Barry

All VB-VP struts are pretty much the same, so you won't benefit from changing the struts.
The problem you have, is the wheels you have chosen have too much positive offset. HSV 17" wheels used in the VN & VP era will clear all VB-VP struts when fitted with 235/45 tyres, as they are the correct offset.

You only have 2 options:
- Choose other 17" wheels with a suitable offset (like VP SV91 rims - also used on VR Clubby) - they fit.
- Wheel spacers (illegal, and can be dangerous).
Cheers,

Mick

Thanks for that, I would not have belived that there would have been that much differance between the years, but such is life. I sort of had a gut feeling that this may have been the case, Thanks for confirming it, Cheers Barry

Whatever you do don't use spacers, mine cracked on the highway destroying lots of parts.

The only time I have used spacers was on my race car and then they where the bolt on type, never had a problem with them but had many other parts fail that put me into a wall or on my roof ;-)
