I have a set of Rare Spares HQ coupe outer door belts that I have had for a while, they were made in 2006. I went to fit them today and problems. They don't follow the contour of the top of the door. Even if you put pressure on them to make them fit the front outer edge of the metal section digs in and damages paint. Any suggestions on fitting from Rare Spares or is there a new version that fits???

Thanks for the reply, I'm just not sure how helpful your advice is as all the HQ coupe doors I have seen are the same shape along the top of the door, that would create a lot of work. It would be nice if the manufacturer of the part would come up with a bit of advice on fitting. I do have some spare doors I will have a go at fitting the door belts to so I don't damage the paint on the good doors any further. If anyone else has a suggested fix for the problem I would be keen to know.

I spoke to Rare Spares staff who suggested a solution that when I tried it on a spare door I am not at all happy with. Have since spoken to Dave Ryan who said he would get someone to talk to me again. Has not happened yet. Perhaps they are looking for another solution. The problem I see is that the reproduction one is straight and the original has some curve, mostly at the front. Simple way to see it is to lay the stainless trim against the door belt where it is meant to sit and you will see the difference. The design of the door belt makes it quite resistant to curving. There must be a way though, I keep looking at my 4 inch angle grinder with a thin disc. Maybe some cuts in the right places would allow it to take the correct shape, but that may cause problems with the weather seal? Still hoping to hear from someone who has found a solution.

I am planning on going to the All Holden Day next weekend so hopefully I will find someone there who has made them fit, or at least a lead to someone who has. Sadly I threw my old rusty ones away before trying the new ones. I think there is possibly two lessons there. Hopefully Rare Spares is having a good look a them because I imagine they would be a popular item if they fitted well. Perhaps they would be more easily manufactured from aluminum or even plastic. They wouldn't rust then either.

That looks easy enough.

Rare Spares sent me a new set of outer door belts to replace my old ones and by following the technique shown in the clip they did fit. The old ones were just different enough to be a problem.
