Come across a couple of the VY/VZ paddle shift cars recently.

But just wondering why Holden dropped it so quickly after it was implemented. You dont see many of the paddle shift cars.
Did it not work, or just not sell? or was the GM system fundamentally floored?

I drove a couple and it worked ok. Just a bit of a gimic though as most people leave autos in top gear and use only brake pedal to slow down and accellerator pedal to speed up. (one of my sons friends was amuzed when he used lower gears to brake in his auto, "why not just use the brakes" he told him). From memory it was only on the 190kW engine so SV6/Calais/Statesman only. The last two you would hardly expect someone to be "racing".

In the VE they went for the "sequencial" chage on the floor shift.

Thanks Warren.

Could it have been on the Adventra as well? I saw a steering wheel for sale recently that was supposedly from a paddleshift Adventra.

Then it got me thinking that I had not seen too many and if it was a flop or not.

Yes, I believe it was available on the Adventra as well.

It wasn't so much the paddle shift was an option. Any car which had the 5L40-E auto transmission had it standard. The 5L40-E was only fitted behind the 190 kW V6, which was only seen in SV6, Calais & Adventra.

It was more a gimmick than a flop, the sequential shifter, as seen in the VE does a better job.

Thanks Doc.

So am I right in thinking that people could have owned cars with this option but just never knew it? they shifted the transmission as they normally do with the shifter and never even considered the paddles??

Yes, definitely they just used the shifter & put it in 'D'.

Remember though, the paddles only shift up or down thru the 1-2-3-4 range, once the shifter is selected to do so. The paddles don't shift to N, R or P.
