Hey y'all. I am about to buy van with v6 in it, (transit), So I am trying to check whether the engine number on the reg papers is a v6 number? Very difficult to find out. Does anyone know whether , VH723870. Is likely to be a commodore v6 engine number? Thanks heaps already. Bcb |

Commodorenut will know for sure, but the sequence number looks like it is. This sequence started at VB Commodore and continued for all GMH 6cyl and V8 engines in Commodore, Calais, Statesman and Holden (inc WB) bar I think the Nissan engines in VL up until the end of Holden V8 in VSIII. Possibly also included Starfires in VC and VH. Not sure when it stopped being used on V6. The V bit also smacks of a Commodore or Holden engine. |

I think they ran out of numbers (i.e. got to 99999) at the end of VT. VX onwards V6s had new prefixes, VA & VR, replaced VH & VS. Dr Terry |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |
