I had a look at a HT Belmont (80180 - 6 cylinder I believe) ute today that I am thinking of buying. It has an original floor shift mount spot welded to the tunnel but no inside plates for bucket seats - any idea why this would be? Also can someone please help me with what colour HT code paint 568-0045 and trim 900-11A are? Also from body number 3952-H5 where would this car have been produced? As always thanks.

900 is Post Office Red.
11A is simply Gold bench seat.

It originally had a bench seat by the trim code, but if the shifter boss on the floor is original it must have been a 4spd, which means it will have been a 186 engine most likely and the gearbox will have been an M22 (an imported Saginaw) transmission.

I'm not certain this was actually a possible combination in HT. In HG if you ordered a 4spd in a commercial, fixed back bucket seats were mandatory, but in HG you couldn't order a 4spd behind a 6cyl, although this was different in HK and HT I believe. Not sure if you could ever get a bench seat with 4spd in HK-HG, others here may know better. Is it a late HT with an ADR tag or is it a 1969 car? The ADR tag would have the seating capacity on it.
My guess is either the floor boss isn't original, or the body isn't original to the tags. If you like PM me the chassis number and the tag details and i'll get them checked to see if they are close enough to belong together.

Thanks for the info. It is a 5/70 HT. The tags appear original (ie original rivets) and the current owner has had it for 20 years. I didn't get all the details but the skinny tag is 80180T4637212. I didn't get the number off the firewall but can get it. The original engine is long gone but the floor mount certainly looks original. Is Post Office red a rare colour - I would like to see a photo of one. This car is still red and the current owner thought it was originally red although the car has been resprayed.

Further how would the 4 speed floor shifter fit with a bench seat?

It won't, hence why it wasn't an option, I just checked it up and HK-HG 4spd in a commercial is mandatory with buckets. Something isn't quite right. I still reckon the tags may not be right for the body. Being a 5/70 it'll have an ADR plate and it will have the car's chassis number on it, check that they match. Failing that the ADR plate may not belong to the other tags, or the floor may have been replaced or the shifter mount welded in.

Post Office red is the colour Australia Post used to order their vehicles in. I doubt very much they'd have ordered a 4spd ute either.

Thanks again. I will get ADR plate to confirm it matches. Maybe the floor shifter plate was welded in later as the floor looks original. So if it was post office red in colour it would have been an Australia Post car???

There was no Australia Post in the late 60s.

Back then, what we now know as Telstra, Austel & Australia were in one entity called the 'PMG'. This acronym stood for Post Master General & handled all postage & all communications (radio & landline) Australia-wide.

This is the reason it was called 'Post Office Red'. Its alternate name was Mercury Red.

When did the PMG become Telecom et al?

A mate of mine's dad had an ex Telecom XY wagon. It was an orange Falcon (not even a Falcon 500) it was basic including a 200 cubic inch 6 and 3 on the tree.

According to Wikipedia, PMG was split up to become Telecom Australia & Australia Post on 1 July 1975.

Telecom Aust was later renamed Telstra in 1993, 1 year after merging with OTC.

Hi there,

Your gearbox could have been an M21. HK could be right though. Mine has an M21 but its a sedan and you can get a bench seat with a floorshift My kingswood has one. I agree with HK1837 though, it probably isn't original. It is possible but extremely unlikely
