Hi everyone
Been lurking for a while and thought it time to dip the toes.

I have got a hk 327 which I have been restoring over the last couple of years.
It is nearing completion but I am need of a bit of help.

After reading various posts and responses here I have come to the opinion that I want to have it looked at by an expert to see how original it is. Is this a worth while exercise or should I be happy with my own knowledge

I have previously had a couple of very original 307s and know most of the things to look for. To get a second opinion would great.

I would also like to delve into its history but are not sure where to start

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

It all depends on what you want to do with the car. If you want to drive it and just enjoy it for what it is. Then just do what you want to do with it.

But if you want to show it and have it as factory authentic as possible, best to get someone in the know to look over it and tell you where it can be improved. As at car shows you will get any number of wan... I mean experts that will pick the s*** out of it if they feel it isn't perfect.

Thanks
It is a high end restoration with mostly original parts used
Factory original is the key
As having owned and restored a number of HKs and seeing various subtle differences in parts and finishes btween them I wouldn't mind a second opinion

I have a great photo base of original markings and correct items and feel its pretty good

I am planning to sell it once completed and want it be right

Just really want it to be appreciated rather than bagged

Greetings, Sound advice. If a car is displayed/on show as being "authentic" then that is what everyone is entitled to expect upon viewing it. If it isn't then some people will usually say so if they know better. There is only one kind of "original car" and they are the ones presented as original and correct to how they were made.

The best thing is there is no shortage of people who know better as there are way way more people out there than cars.
look out, the guru is coming through...

I thibnk one thing that has helped with the "restoration to original movement" is the sharing of knowledge through the interent, clubs etc.

30 years ago you were on your wn and had to rely on what you found yourself on other cars. Making it easy to think the wrong thing is right. Now there really is no excuse in Monaro restoration. Best thing is to take it to some of these Monaro events and have the "experts" give you feedback. If you ask them they are usually pretty good about it.

I know Ben and myself would never tell a person that there cars was wrong unless they ask us. After all they might not be fully restoring it just presenting the way they like it.

Thanks for your advice
Not sure a Monaro outing is the best place for critique
I was more looking for Gmh expert to view the car and advise me of its faults if any
I would also be happy to pay for this service

This car is worthy of that bit of extra effort so when the time comes to part with it the new owner will be very happy .
