HZ, just before they went to the 11ZT engine number.

You can't tell exactly what model Statesman, only what series. As Warren says it is HZ series somewhere bewteen Sept to Dec 1978, but you don't know if it is from a Deville or Caprice. |

Unless its a rebirthed QT motor. Big presumption to guess what it's out of in my opinion. Beware of ant 11QT motor unless you actually know the car it came out of. Edited by user 11 years ago

It was an easy way for thieves to re-birth a stolen engine back in the day. They just added the 11 in front of the engine number and the engine was re-birthed. Holden made it just too easy.

Engine number part itself is unique though and Police woke up to that pretty quickly from memory. If 11QT654321 turned up and QT654321 was stolen they knew there was something fishy as this situation never existed. |
