There is no Sandman model as such in HJ or any other HQ-HZ series Sandmans. It is a special vehicle option package on one of three models in HJ: Ute, Van and Kingswood ute. Similar to Thinder ute in VE which was available on SV6 ute and SS ute.

HJ-HZ Sandmans are relatively common, HQ are the rare ones. HJ can be difficult to pick. Dash is the same as GTS for early ones (silver) and changed to black fascia later.

G'day

Thanks HK1837

I went to try and get parts for my ute but pretty much nothing left of it except chassie and body
IT has xx7 stamped in right corner
HJ8wm70
361567B
1901 19v
567 15974
L34 M21 Gv4
2 seat compliance
2200kg
9/75

What do these codes mean
He said he is going to turn into a trailer
Is it worth buying to save it

Thanks
Paul

IT is a HJ Sandman panel van, built and assembled at Acacia Ridge.

1901 is Satin Mist metallic.
19V is black vinyl trim.

Engine will be L31 which is 308
M21 is 4spd.
GV4 is 3.36:1 rear axle.

If the body is OK and the chassis matches the tags grab it. Very nice combinationa nd the best of all Sandman vans in some ways being a 308 HJ.

G'day all

Thanks HK1837

Body seems ok but will have a closer look. it has got that interior strip in the back above the tailgate
Has got a kingswood front end on it not origional
there isn't much on the car at all even no interior
I think it may have had a front on
If the chassie matches How much should I offer ??
If the chassie doesn't match how much should I offer??

Thanks again.

Paul

If the chassis is different to the ADR tags walk away, not worth spending money on. If the body is really good and the chassis matches probably worth $2000-$2500 if you are after a project, but there is a lot of money to spend to make it into a finoshed product probably worth $25k max, so do your sums first! It has windows in the side which will devalue it a bit though.

If the body is half decent you could stick it on Ebay with the tags and someone will pay $4000 for it. If there is lots of good parts anything up to a few thousand is worth it. If the body is half decent then it might be a good donor body for someone with a rusty but complete 1976 model HJ Acacia Ridge Sandman van, hence it is worth their while paying $3-4k for it. If you can keep the tags for a keepsake even better still.

Chassis number is probably BHZ12981B, just an Acacia Ridge ute or vam chassis.

The body is really good with very little rust in it. it has no interior at all no dash no motor no gearbox

Has a diff and not original front end. i scratched some purple paint off and it was satin mist metallic underneath.
basically a bear shell with hz chassis.

That part number only refers to the tyre details placard which says it fits an 8 cylinder van and ute except Sandman. However the book doesn't show a suitable decal for a Sandman yet they list every other model in the HJ range.

That is a HX XU3 placard but for a while now I have suspected they may have been fitted to some pre 10/75 XX7 and post 10/75 XU3.

Thanks tour director and hk1837

Does that mean the glove box has been changed or just not recorded as such?
What's a good price to offer this guy for as is.

Cheers

Only you can judge that. I've given my ideas above. Glovebox doesn't mean much, tags are Sandman if they are original to the shell.
