my vr never had a radio when bought it but i did have a vn radio which i thought would fit, however i now find it is way too deep won't go all the way in.
would that be right or is it supposed to stick out?
i only want something to listen and play tapes or cds doesn't have to be a million mega watts also not interested the double din ones they require too much fussing around to fit just want something that plugs more or less straight in.

I've never had an issue with any factory or aftermarket DIN sized stereo in a VN-VS.

Are you using the factory brackets screwed into the side of the stereo, and then bolted into the dash frame? If you don't have them, then it's worth a visit to a wrecker to get a pair.
Cheers,

Mick

Mick the air con/ventilation system ducting stops the radio from going all the way in. The problem with a double din is that i would have to remove and replace the surround and don't really have the time to chase one up and don't want to go to bother of replacing them. I do have the clips but radio just does not go in. or should i give it a shove?

Hi John, I agree- not worth the hassle for a double DIN, but a single DIN slips straight into these.
The heater box design in that area is the same for all VN-VS, so it shouldn't be an issue.

I mentioned the factory brackets, as sometimes people (prior owners) have removed them & fitted aftermarket radios with a cradle arrangement that can seat them in too deep.

The ducting shouldn't get in the way at all - the radio slips into a pocket in the metal framework behind the dash plastic. Has someone mucked around with it before you got it?

I'd suggest visiting a wreckers & finding a VR/VS with a factory radio still in it (which a lot still do) and compare it all to how yours is.
Cheers,

Mick

thanks mick will hit the wreckers next week.
the dash does not appear to have been messed with apart from no radio...boooreing on a long run with no noise, not even a decent exhaust note.
