im determined to put a 3.6ltr ve sidi motor and transmission into a new model holden cruze making it rear wheel drive and a v6 not a 4 cylinder and I want to know the best approach to go about it as its my first engine conversion

Is this for the street or the race track ? For the track you could just build a space-frame, but it's highly unlikely you would get an engineer to sign off on anything like that for street use. It would need some serious chassis & bodywork modifications, not to mention the EFI wiring & plumbing etc.

For your first engine conversion you should start with something more orthodox. By all means use a later model EFI powertrain, but put it into something that doesn't need such horrendous surgery.

You wont be able to do it on the street conversion. It can't be done, so let that idea go.

I saw a Hyundai Excel that had been converted to rear wheel drive once. Even at the time I wondered why in hell you would bother.

As everyone have said, just dont bother, by the sound of it you would need to pay people to work on the car for you and the end result would just not be worth it.

But if you are 'determined' call up and engineer, tell him your plans and get their opinion, you will know pretty quick if it is remotely possible.

But even if it was possible, which we all highly doubt, why would you want to? To pay someone to do the work and then have it engineered for street duties, there would be no change out of $100k.

Go and buy a SIII RX7 and put the same engine in it. Easier and way cooler.

Why stop at the 6? A mate of mine in Canberra is doing an LS1 RX7 conversion. Much better power to weight.
