Hoping someone can help me out.I recently got a 1964 Futura converible. It is running original 260 Windsor.Problem is it gets hot!Have done the usual checks,Flushed radiator, flushed block, replaced hoses, thermostat. It is running original type 3 core radiator and fan.I have since pulle thermostat out and made a bit of difference but not to where i am happy with it.No mods have been made to the motor as it was rebuit about 5 years ago buy someone else.Motor runs sweet as a nut.Seems to be a lot of pressure in hoses when stopped as well.Could this be a heater bypass problem maybe? It has no shroud which i know will help a lot and have ordered one from the states and should be here in a couple of weeks.Any advice would be appreciated. Also is there any suppliers in Australia that sell stuff for this era of car.It is still original LHD? Thanks...

So you got it with this problem. It maybe just rust scale blocking the radiator tubes. if you can see the rust siting in over the tubes take it out and get the top tank pulled off to take the rust out. I have seen this with new radiators and the dickheads can't work it out, if it's blocking the tubes it does not make any difference be it new or not. What should be done if a old motor has been siting and rust scale has been building up, is to put a sock or filter in line of the top tank hose to catch all the rust so it does not get traped in the cores. Even if you pull a radiator out one should fill it with water, never leave it just sitting for weeks dry if you have it out. she may look good on the out side but that means noting much.

hi, try a new radiator cap first (always start at the easiest and cheapest place first!). Does the bottom hose have a spring in it? I've seen new hoses collapse when cold.
Maybe water pump? The impeller might be worn or the vanes not quite right, a not uncommon problem with aftermarket cheap water pumps.
Keep us posted!

Can't remember completely, but didn't the Ford V8 USA cars have a different rotation through the water pump. Then if replaced with a new one over here you would have heating problems. Edited by user Tuesday, 4 February 2014 3:53:29 AM(UTC)

Success!! Took radiator out and put in a new alumnium one that i borrowed off my mates Mustang.Even though the old one was pressure cleaned it must of had crap in the rhs core.Aluminium one worked a treat.Didnt quite fit as it was from a 1967 Mustang but zip ties for a temporary fit worked well. Thanks for all your input!!
