Says it an original 308 4 speed 10 bolt. Not so sure though, the column auto quadrant in the sports dash is a worry. What do you think?

I think you have a point there, at least with the dash. Dash looks like its for an auto. I guess if the seller is wrong or misleading on that point or(unless they have a build sheet), I'd be questioning the rest of the claims. Never-the-less, It is certainly a nice car. Even if some of the goodies have been added later. On that point, there is a really nice HK prem wagon with unusual options on the old holden forum. It's perhaps even nicer!

Thanks for the link to Hk wagon albyht. Maybe some other forum member better informed than me could correct me if I am wrong. In the pics of the link albyht gave above http://oldholden.com/node/123107#comment-559823, the electrics windows on this HK premier might of been added later as it looks like the old window winder holes have just been covered over with Holden badges. Also I was led to believe early 307 HK's with factory a/c got drum brakes as there was an issue with a/c plumbing or something fouling the brake booster. Is this correct?

Yes Jeremy, you are correct on both counts.

The auto quadrant on the GTS instrument cluster as well as a console shift is a bit dodgy.

You are also correct about the early 307s with a/cond. In the very early days you couldn't option a/cond with disc brakes. The problem was that the brake outlet pipes fouled the a/cond compressor. This became a real problem in July '68 when the GTS & Brougham were released. You could option a/cond on Kingswood but not on a Brougham, WTF !!.

Various fixes were tried, with alterations to the m/cyl plumbing, but the solution was the new brake booster (with the direct push-rod) which sat higher up & closer to the RH guard. It is bit hard to tell, but it looks like an early booster in the pic. The a/cond fittings are new, so it could have been a retro fit & not a factory fit at all.

The air is definately not factory on this car. If it was factory then the wiper motor would have no pump on top, the A/C cars use the Belmont pump under the washer bottle. So the wiring harness if also different.

The car is a pre 8/68, A/C with discs did come in before 8/68 but not long before.

The car is a typical over option by a previouse restorer, even to the point someone put in a rear speaker controller, when wagons have no pace for the rear speaker. (not available on wagon)

What is and is not factory on this car is open to debate.

In saying that, who cares? Its a great looking car, just not one to copy off if you are restoring a car to original.

Well you boys have taught me a think or two about HK prems. I don't pretend to be an expert.
I do have a question though regarding the rear speaker controller on the red wagon I posted, The controller is beside the dash with a hole fitted through the metal. Now, Did they really do this at the factory or was this a sort of period option from another manufacturer that an owner /dealer might fit afterward?
(I realise that this probably wasn't fitted by the factory on this car)

Thanks Warren and Terry.
True Warren, it's a very nice HK wagon, though always interesting to know the little details regarding originality.
Alby, I am not sure if the hole was cut for the rear fader in HKTG's sedans at the factory or at Holden dealers. Probably another question Warren or Terry could answer.

To my knowledge, the vast majority of these rear speaker & fader kits were dealer-fitted utilising genuine Nasco parts.

The instructions which came with the kit specified the metal area to the right of the instruments for the mounting of the fader control.

Having said that, I've also seen many HK/T/Gs where the fader was fitted in place of the choke control blank (on 186S & V8 cars). This saved drilling the metal & also looked neater.

This variation may have even been added to later prints of the instruction sheet, but I've not seen that version.

Firstly you would have to option the radio through the factory, which was not that common.

When optioning a radio in a Brougham it comes standard with the fader, another option on other cars.

The "factory" versions that I have seen seem to have it through the choke blank, if available, the others on the dash as shown.

But no wagon/ute/van was ever fitted with it by the dealer or the factory, sedan and coupe only.

I beg to differ. I know of at least 2 wagons with dealer-fitted rear speakers. They just cut a hole in the left-hand rear side trim & fitted the rear shelf speaker in there.

Not strictly to the 'rules' & certainly not factory, but it does fit & work. The dealer will do anything, within reason, to comply with a customer's request & at the same time earn extra $$$.
