I picked up a 5.0 VS statesman today ex. 82 year old 1 owner with 307000 kms with the oil light on and ALL lifters sounding very dry. Assuming it was worn oil pump, I changed it with another one and primed it down through the switch hole.
Result:No good ..
Hmm, must be blocked pickup? as motor looks fairly gunked up, so I throw 3 litres of Diesel down it to try and clean it out and run for 2 minutes
Result: very slight improvement but no were safe to run
So I am thinking tomorrow I may blow some compressed air down the oil switch threaded hole on the oil pump itself to try and open up the pickup and clear the mesh. Anyone tried this? |

had a mate that got his vn v8 serviced some where they convinced him it needed a engine flush half an hour after he picked it up oil light was on. we put it on a hoist chained the engine up dropped the front end out removed the sump the pick up was blocked cleaned it all up new bearings and camshaft while we were at it still going.
I have seen the pick up gasket split were it mounts to the block and sucks air but this is usally done when putting it back to gether. pete.
