Next winter the wife and I are taking 3 months of our LSL and are heading off to see the sights and are going to purchase a panelvan. Either Ford or Holden but we do love the XC since I had one many a year ago. Just recently we went to trade in our VX Commodore in on a Suzuki Vitara and all they'd give use was $1,000 so we bought the Suzuki and am going to use the Commodore as a donor vehicle for the panel van. Now I'm wondering has anyone used the V6 Commodore engine and auto and used it in the XB or XC Fords. I'm sure there enough room but it'll depend on whether the oil pan with miss the subframe and whether the transmission will fitt without to much cutting. Now before you go jumping up and down and abusing me, to me Fords and Holdens are the same and both a great Australian made vehicles.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

People have put Commodore LS1's into XY's because the Commode sump is about right.

I placed a VN V6 into a Capri & found that the A/C compressor will have to move though due to the LH engine mount being a lot lower than the RH mount on a Commodore. This is probably your biggest hurdle besides the wiring and security system of the Commodore.

It will still cost you many thousands in custom stuff, wiring, exhaust, radiator, tailshaft, fuel lines, engineering certificate, etc etc.

It would cost less to fit a Ford injected 6 or 8, considering that many items will not need to be custom made as compared to the Holden. You will still need custom wiring and an engineers report.

Peter also has some good points and I'll add that the cheapest way to get a late model injected 6 and four speed auto into your XC is to buy a complete running XG ute or van and transfer everything across.

However if you do decide the V6 is what you want then talk to WWW.V6conversions.com.au Don't bother emailing them as you will wait forever just get on the phone.
