Or how about the Toyota salesman who, when I was given a Vxi Lexcen as a company car assured me it was built on a completely different line from Commodore, using only Toyota people to make the quality superior and had "many changes" to make it better than Commodore.

As far as epic failures amongst Holden owners go, I would like to submit the following entry: A neighbour of ours was one of the first people I knew to buy a Camira. A JB 1.6 Carb.
Believe it or not, he actually quite liked it for its comfort, economy and I'm not sure what else, but, he liked it. Around 3 years later, he came across an article in 'Wheels' about the 'Potent new Camira', which was referring to the new 1.8 JD PFI. So he decided to trade his JB for the new 'potent' JD, except he waited a little too long and took delivery of one of the very first JD 1.8TBIs. He never realised his mistake, although I do remember him commenting that the performance didn't seem that much better than the JB and what was all the fuss about? He is long gone now, and as a Holden fan, I never could bring myself to tell him about the difference between the 1.8 PFI and the 1.8TBI. Sometimes you just don't need to go there.

I remember that. He ripped the Starfire out and replaced it with a 2.6 Astron to show how Holden SHOULD have built a 4 cylinder Commodore.From memory it was probably THE best 4 cyl Pre VL Commodore ever. |

I remember the front cover of Wheels, I think it was, with a red motor on a chopping block and a Neanderthal about to wield an axe to produce the infamous Misfire four. Wikipedia, ever the master of understatement says "This new engine was not a complete success however". It probably makes a good entrant, but I digress.
Peter Wherret had a quite a few alternative ideas, if I remember correctly. One of the most bizarre was a penchant for all things Tonsley Park.

Peter even had a special edition Sigma named after Him. Amongst other things it had very nice 15" alloy wheels |

my mate and I both had TX Gemini coupes.
Mine got a 3.8 from a VS with some major effort, his got a, wait for it..
13B turbo rotory from a series 4 RX7
Both quick fun cars that didn't last long..

That must be a 4spd car too, so being 4/70 253 or 308 4spd. I can't see evidence of the speedo cable hole though, but might just be a trick of the light. But also can't see a trimatic kickdown brackety thing. |

It looks like the remains of the grommet for a speedo cable halfway between the wiper motor and the engine harness connector hole in the fifth picture.

Wrong spot mate. Saginaw and V8 powerglide speedo cable hole is on the other side of that first rib closer to the wiper motor hump. The bit sticking out is that little dick thing that pokes out through the firewall through about a 10mm hole. I reckon it must have been a trimatic and the kickdown bracket has been removed. Timeframe is right for a trimatic. In HG (HT was probably the same) if you ordered XS6/A50 (buckets) and M40 (trimatic) you automatically got M11 console shift unless you also ticked D55 (seat separator) which then got you the seat separator and column shift. So a console shift M40 V8 HT-HG Kingswood sedan/wagon or Premier or even Monaro shouldn't be all that rare, i'm sure plenty of bucket seat V8 trimatic examples were ordered. Console shift (and hence A50 or XS6 buckets) was also mandatory in HT-HG passenger vehicles (exc Brougham) when ordering V8 and M21 4spd or with M20 4spd behind 6cyl. |

The upside down pictures are a feature of eBay.
Sometimes you take a photo, rotate it 180�� degrees, save it and list it on your ebay which promptly turns it back the other 180 degrees.
