I know that the title sounds funny but I'm serious.
Someone is coming down from Sydney on Friday evening with a box trailer to buy an engine, gearbox, CV joints, P/S rack and ECU from me.
He would like to test drive it before removal then drive back to Sydney with it all in a box trailer.
Now I'm thinking that it will save him time if I simply remove the exhaust & fuel lines and slice the front half of the car off and load that up for him.
The windscreen is buggered anyway so I'm thinking that it might be easier to cut through the A pillars and the windscreen than cut the roof above the screen.
Will an angle grinder cut through a screen easy enough using a steel cutting wheel or even my concrete cutting diamond wheel?
Will it create nasty side effects such as glass shards all over my driveway?

I wouldn't consider an angle grinder suitable. Perhaps a reciprocating saw with a fine tooth blade. Punch a hole to start with using a sharp pick then go for it. Glasses, old throw away clothes/overalls & even a P2 face mask gotta be worn. Edited by user Wednesday, 3 September 2014 5:04:02 AM(UTC)

"Test on inconspicious area first" comes to mind. A diamond disc will cut ceramic tiles with out shards, but the laminate film between the glass layers is an unknown factor. Isn't it strange how this topic appeals to everyone? Nothing like a bit of wanton destruction to get the juices flowing.
My two bobs worth is lie on the front seat and push the screen out with the soles of your boots. Less clean up that way. All sorts of nasties would get thrown around with the grinder. Only to be done in a rented house and a set of rented lungs and eyes.

can tell you from experience will take forever to cut glass and messy, lot easier to run angle grinder across roof just above windscreen. 5 minutes. i don't think you can get reciprocating saw blades that cut glass and they will be costly. let him sort the windscreen out.

OK so first move is try to remove the already busted windscreen.
I have never had any luck doing this as they are too deep across the lower edge to get any cutting device into.
Tried it with a VN and an EB. This is a Subaru which will be similar as it has no cowl panel either.
If that fails I'll cut through the roof.
Maybe a mute point as the fellow may get down from Sydney at 5 or 6 o clock and simply want to pull engine gearbox, drive shafts and ECU before putting all into a trailer and driving home (big day for him).

I knew a afgani that used to send half cuts back home he used a cow saw, just a electric style hack saw from Bunnings be surprised how quick it could cut a car in two, no grinding wheel used.
