Hi, I would like to track down the original number plate my WB was registered as back in '81. I searched QLD Transport web site and called but could not get past "our computers don't go back that far".
I have original delivery book, with VIN and engine numbers and 1st owner listed. Does anyone know if there is anyway I could track down this number?
Any help appreciated!
Cheers

The original selling dealer maybe? They will probably not go back that far either. Or worse they no longer exist.

I'm surprised that the original delivery book does not mention it.

Maybe Holden themselves can tell you the original plate number?

Paper records took up too much room, so they were not kept. Holden will not have it.

Original selling dealer is long gone I believe it could have been "Russell Smith Holden" Cleveland or "Andersons Auto" Gladstone (still operating but no info from that period) . The delivery certificate page in handbook was not stamped or signed.....dated 08/09/1981. It was a Tuesday so can't blame Fridayitis....
Numbers match so handbook is right one.

You could just look at some other September 1981 cars for sale on CarPoint or CarSales, and just get a plate one back or forwards of that plate if it is available. You will have a era correct number plate.

In Victoria Vicroads can and will do a manual search of early plates, at least as far back as 1969.
I reckon Qld transport would also have records that could be manually searched. If the car was reregistered presumably this was more recent than 1981 and the original number may be traceable.
They should also have transfer of ownership records. If it is the original engine number that too may be able to be tracked, as it is in Victoria.
I'd give them a ring and be reluctant to give up. You pay registration, and hence their salaries.

Thanks GM5735! Yes the lady I spoke to last week seemed reluctant to lay down her dough nut. We have a single person agency here in town I will visit him and see if he can help out. I searched the white pages for the surname of the original owner in the same area, found one lady by the same name but not the family I was after.

Best QLD Transport could find was back to 1998.That was a personalised plate. Local guy here was very helpful, he has been in the department a long time made a few calls to mates in the department, hats off to Neil!

The AOMC can look up some records. Here is a list of what they may be able to help with.
