Hey guys, first post here. Got a bit of an odd question. My grandfather recently passed onto me his beloved 1979 VB Commodore, it is in original condition but it's a bit battle scarred. I'm about to start the process of restoring it back to original condition (or as close to as i can). I'm trying to work out how to find who the original selling dealer was, and to hopefully add the dealers sticker to the back window (there was a sticker there but its faded and long gone). I know it may seem a bit petty or silly but this means a lot to me. I've asked Holden Customer Care, but apparently due to privacy reasons this info cannot be passed onto me. I have a few connections with Holden dealers thanks to the trade I'm in, but however as hard as they've tried they cant find out for me. I've been put onto holden.org.au but the website would not let me register, I've found their Facebook page and sent them a message, but again nothing. The car was not bought new, it was purchased second hand by my grandfather (it was not that old when he bought it) so he was the second owner. The car still has the original number plates on it, and i can provide all the details off the tags. So if anyone out there can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Hi Jarred. It's obviously a special car to you, and good for you for keeping it.
Since it has the original plates, and assuming its whole life has been in Victoria, Vicroads will almost certainly be able to help you with tracing its history back to the original dealer.
I recently had a search done back to 1970, so it can be done. You'll need to order an archive search, and there may be a small fee. Usually the VIN and the engine number are the two most important details they need, apart from the plates.
You would also need to be the registered owner to have the search done.

cheers mate. I'll have a chat to VicRoads. The car is out of rego tho, and it was never transferred into my name. (it only had less than a months reg left when i got it, ran out of time to have it roadworthied) I'm in the process of having it put onto club reg with the club i'm with. again, thanks for your help. You could try Holden Historic Services, they maybe able to help being a 79 model. This is run privately, but they do have a lot of Holden records.
