Sure is.

I kinda know the owner. Would be able to track him down if I really tried.

He told me that there was one of each built, ie HK GTS 186S, 307 and 327 all in Warrigal black.

It is undergoing a full resto, should be nearly finished by now. Been a long few years since I spoke to him.

BUT... What price could you ever put on a genuine Warrigal black HK GTS 327??

I would think the Burgundy one would be more desirable.

Looks fantastic on a GTS with 18Y trim. Saw a 5L 4spd one one.

Not a factory black Monaro... but a Belmont.

Hi.

Just to update. I have learned much about the Black beauty HKGTS327. Recently sold and will finally be finished. Previous owner is a top class painter (and a really nice person). Over the last eight years I was privileged to have been offered the car several times. My final offer was to swap my complete Picardy red 327 for the black car in pieces. At that stage it had a first class restoration pretty much done but still needed to be assembled. This car has a great story and I remember seeing it around Merrylands/Parramatta/Guildford as a kid. Those of you who know my car would likely agree that such a swap was fair for both. Unfortunately for me (and him, in my humble opinion) He did not wish to go down the swapping track. My reasoning for offering such a swap was that he would have been able to sell my car a bit easier than the black car in pieces. I would have enjoyed re assembling the Black car.I often encouraged him to complete it. But he was busy working and bringing up his kids. I understand the new owner is more than worthy and will see to it that it will become the one and only Black Beauty HK327GTS and I wish him all the best with his project.
Cheers Nick.

Just to a comment on Edelbrock's comment: What price would you put on it? Well it did sell for a reasonable price for a Black 327GTS in pieces.

Nick G and I have spoken about another one supposed to be in rural NSW but after many years of looking around we cannot find evidence of it.
Cheers
Nick.

Hard to say Nick. Thinking $ only, if you could go back in time and order a few different cars with the object of putting them in vacuum storage and selling them in the future you'd probably order all black cars as people seem to get excited about them for whatever reason despite black always being an easy CTV car to order. Cars like a black HK-HG 1837, a black late HJ Kingswood Sandman with Sienna trim or a black XU1.

But if you wanted plain awesome to look at you'd probably pick like a Burgundy GTS327 with 18Y trim or silver XU1 with red trim. The reason the black cars don't look all that awesome is almost all of GMH's "muscle" type cars use blackouts and black stripes to create the effect, so for example a HK GTS327 in black is all black - too black to be truthful. A few like Verdoro and Monaco HT got other stripes but still blackouts, and I guess a black HT GTS would get gold stripes? A HQ GTS sedan in black would look nice with silver paint panels like an XA GT looks awesome in black with silver. HQ and HJ Sandman in black got white stripes if fitted but no standout paintouts. Again in HX-Z Sandman and LX SS if they were black and you elected to have the awful stripes fitted you would have no blackouts to stand out. One that would look cool is an LX A9X sedan in black with the silver tail treatment.

The other issue of course is original GMH product wasn't all that straight, my mate's Windsor blue HZ Sandman van you can see how dodgy the joins are as original, in black it'd be even worse.

So in the end I guess a black example will pull huge interest and at auction probably great $. But everytime I see a Warwick Yellow HK GTS in original exterior trim I wonder why you'd want any other colour!

Hi Byron and all.

Good points. I do like Warwick Yellow and I have had opportunities on several top shelf 327 examples. My desire for that colour is because it is the Bathurst winning colour. I also knew Bruce McPhee and I liked him. My fav colour is Picardy Red and I ended up with that colour. But regarding the idea of a black muscle car when "Black on Black" is the combo it is really subtle. Shiny gloss and the flat blackouts and stripes make it really classy. Just think of the 1969 Mach1 Mustang (or the 69 Camaro) in that combo and they look great. Paul's (ex) Black Monaro will look great an I know it's beautiful lines will still be striking. Cheers Byron. Nick

I found an old link from this site circa 2008 and the Black 327 owner fastlane profile stressedout350 wanted $320,000.
Wonder if he got anything like this amount ?
Nick ?

I personally love black on black cars but with a HK Monaro
Like Byron says -might be too much black. Hard to see black stripes on a black car.
Have a look at this taken at Ballarat http://s1294.photobucket...521_zps08387e69.jpg.html

That black HK looks nice but doesn't go near matching a Warwick Yellow or Silver Mink car in looks!

Have a look at the black LX SS near the bottom of this page, again too much black:

http://www.gmh-torana.co...10-lx-gurus-help/page-3

Even the hippy stripes wouldn't help it!

Hi Peter

What the vehicle sold for is one point. But where it sits in the great land of "Monaro" is more relevant.

On this subject I feel my comments bear consideration.

Having been one of the final bidders on the record (public) sale HK327 I can say the hammer fell back then at $220k plus premiums etc.

So there is the precedent. Add an understanding of several things and a realistic value of between $150k and $200k can be considered realistic for that car.

1. Through the boom of the mid "zeros" HK/T/G 327/350 GTS Monaros were considered somewhat undervalued.

2. I am aware of two private sales higher than the benchmark $220k
for an HK.

Cars like the Blue one discussed are now starting to break through $150k

3.Other cars are now starting to move. An excellent example of market surety is Nick G's absolutely fabulous Beige non GTS 186 Manual Monaro which has won concours at the Nats three times (?)

4. Many people went through the GFC without "having to" get rid of their toys. I am aware of many cars parked and the owners are in no hurry to sell their cars. Two weeks ago I saw a Monaro on the North Coast which is unknown to the fraternity. It Would have to be one of the best HT350 manuals out there. The owner is a craftsman and he restored it in the early 90's. It might have done fifty miles and is maintained in superb condition.

5. The Warwick yellow car (which Peter has mentioned in a previous thread) which sold for around $65k. This car lived on the other side of the Clarence River to mine and can vouch for its need for at least $100k worth of resto. If that car is done properly the new owner will see it owing him at least that much.

So they are out there.

Getting to the Black car. Well I did say I offered my car for it in bits. I did say that did not suit my mate for his own reasons. So that should provide a vague indication of present value.

When this car is done it will be one of the most valuable HKs (This is unfortunate for me....lol). Perhaps the only more valuable Monaro is the Bruce McPhee car which I believe could possibly still exist. Stranger things have happened.

Cheers.Nick.

Spoke to Paul yesterday. He let me know the original owner told him he had a choice of not only black but silver stripes.

Interesting.

That would be interesting Nick, seeing how they could have possibly done silver (I assume metallic) stripes on a HK, especially given the black is not metallic. GMH only ever did it once (in HT on Monaco and Verdoro and both of these are metallic with metallic stripes) and never again until shadow tones in VC. They did put metallic highlights on HT Broughams but these weren't cleared afaik hence why it didn't last.

Just discovered that the most likely silver specified for HK GTS won't be metallic. It is called Aluminium and is what is specified for stripes on HB on dark colours like Warrigal and Burgundy Maroon. So it would have been applied just like the black stripes in the finishing areas of the vehicle assembly plants.

Friend of my father from Greystanes in western Sydney had a factory black HK GTS in the late 1960's through the 1970's. He worked with my father at Blue Metal & Gravel at Greystanes/Prospect. It was a V8 but can't remember if it was a 307 or 327. Reasonably sure it was a manual.

Hi Jim

I am pretty sure the car you have mentioned is this one.
Pretty sure it went through Fair Deal Car Sales Parramatta when new and was sold into Greystanes/ Merrylands.

As a kid I saw it often in Parra/ Merrylands/ Guildford.

Cheers Nick.

Small world Nick

The owner of the Black Monaro's name was Mr Townsend. He passed away 3 years ago. I also went to school with his children. I will see if I can make contact with Mr Townsends son's in regards to getting some more info Nick.
The closest Holden dealer would of been Fairdeals Parramatta. Also happens to be where my HG was purchased when new.
