hi all I am looking at a kingswood to buy the id plates read as
BHJ42445A BUT THE CHASSIS NUMBER IS BHX36819S it doesn't match any reasons please let me know.

The chassis rails have been replaced with a set from a HX. To the letter of the law you shouldn't be able to register a HJ with HX rails without adding all the ADR's applicable to a BHX. I can't remember them all but ADR27A (fuel and exhaust emissions controls). You may also fall foul of the side intrusion bar ADR as well.

If that was the case Byron, then I could take an HZ and fit HQ rails and take ADR27a off.

I had this discussion with the Police about the dating of cars using compliance plate or chassis number on HQ to WB and the final compromise was the compliance plate was used for ADRs, not the chassis number on the rails.

After all a HQ with HZ rails is still a HQ.

That is how it is done (or was done last I looked) in NSW Warren. When Engineering a car the ADR compliance is based upon the chassis number not the ID plates (unless they are the same). Blue slip rego isn't that strict though, most likely the car would be registered as a 1975 HJ and listed with a BHX chassis number.

Problem is if you fit a HX chassis to an early HQ and then try and register as an HX, it will not comply for a large number of reasons, making the car defective.

..i guess GMH recognised this potential problem and applied the firewall serial number stamping...??

... i reckon a pretty elegant way of removing the obvious problem of a chassis/subframe change due to a hard frontal hit...and the issue of the always evolving ADR's....

Only Pagewood used a firewall number for HQ and it was to track the car through the build process. Plus the number has no Series or ADR info in iy, just a sequential 5 digit number with an S after it.
