Hey guys, I have posted this question elsewhere but I respect the knowledge of many on this forum so I thought I'd put it out there - I'm slowly doing up my HT and I'm looking to purchase the decal for the air cleaner BUT Which air cleaner decal is correct for a 308 HT- (build date April 69)? You see, when I went to buy the air cleaner decal, I got a bit confused. For a 308 engine I have 2 options - either a decal that says, - 308 GMH or a decal that says:- 308 holden. Obvious problem is which one is correct (that's why I put the build date above if that helps)?? http://www.ebay.com.au/i...ies&hash=item51acade9f6

Why would they do 2 different ones anyway? thanks Alby

The December 1969 issue of Wheels magazine has a road test of a HT GTS 253. The engine air cleaner decal clearly shows the "253 Holden" wording in the engine picture on page 59. I can only assume the 308 would follow the same pattern.

To my knowledge, the HT & HG V8s had either 253 HOLDEN OR 308 HOLDEN. They changed this to read 253 GMH & 308 GMH for the HQ series.
I understand this was because when the engine was fitted to a Statesman, it lead to a clash of branding, because a Statesman is 'technically' not a Holden, so the engine decal had to agree.
All HT/HGs were Holdens, so no problems there.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

A great explanation Dr Terry. Thanks, that clears that up. By the way the car is a 70 build, not 69 as I stated earlier, (my bad) Thanks again, Alby

Just to throw a spanner in the works, there is also a 308 CHEVROLET decal for South African HGs, as these were a Chev not a Holden.
But a 307 is a 5 litre HOLDEN according to its decals.
