Have installed vs v8 k frame in Vk with vs power steering rack it is longer by about 50 mm is it as simple as changing rack ends or is there something simpler that will solve my problem k frame and rack change was to install 304 injected engine

Yes, the length is in the rack ends, but that's not the problem. The problem is the pinion drive is a square shaft on VS (and also VR, and later VP racks).

You need to get a VN or early VP rack with the round splined shaft. This will then fit the VL power steer intermediate shaft, which will then connect to your VK column. The VN-early VP rack is a direct fit if you kept the lines & pump from the donor car as well.

Also, don't get the rack with the actuator (and wires) on the pinion housing - this is the variable effort rack, and it needs the electronics to drive it - it's also longer in the pinion shaft, so the VL intermediate shaft won't fit.
