Just to start with, the Holden GEN 3 from VT to VZ engines have different plug gaps they go from 1.5 to 1.3 then to 1.1 why is this so.
I use AC plugs in mine, my VY came new with AC 41-954 then I put NGK PZTR5A-15 and now AC 41-974 and now I have to replace them, I think I will just get the same again as they were cheaper than the NGK.

AC 7963 are like NGK PZTR5A-13 or 15 they are platinum.
AC 9204 are like NGK ITR5F-13 they are Iridium.
AC 41-954 are NGK PTR5A-10 or -13

A mate was changing his VZ SS plugs and I said just get the AC type as they are cheaper and a good plug nowadays and he said no way, they are rubbish.
I said yes I know they were rubbish years ago, but now they are just as good as NGK.
It turns out that when he puled out the plugs in his car that he has owned from new that the plugs were AC and the car has did 103,000km on them and never missed a beat and looked fine. he changed the leads for some high performance ones but they come so long that they look stupid, so he took them back for another type that looked neat.

It must be the plug type as to the gap difference I think as the coils are the same I think ?
Once you start looking at the year models and Monaro's Statesman I tonne etc it's all over the place as to plug and gaps as It just does not stop at one date and change to another it's like goat eaten pickle's to look at.

I have had my VX SS GenIII from new, the original plugs were the Denso Platinum Plugs, around the VY era they changed to Iridium Plugs, talking to the Holden dealer I was told the change was to do with emissions requirements which had changed over the years. My VX SS gets serviced by a workshop that specialises in GEN 3 powered cars, he prepares a lot of cars for the HSV club which run in club events and also runs a few cars in improved production racing. When he changed the plugs in my VX SS he went back to the original copper core plugs that were in the early VT GENIII (NGK-BPR6EF), he said they produced more power on the engine dyno when tuning their race cars, have a look at the attached pics, the faded slightly blury one is from an early VT and the brighter sharper pic is from the engine bay in my VX SS you will see the different plugs listed. He closed the gap on the plugs in mine down to .9mm as he said that is what they found better on the dyno, I guess as the plugs age they do open the gap up as well, mine has been running fine with the conventional plugs for the past 2 years or so.
