From what I can ascertain in 1968 the 186s GTS had the conventional L shaped bracket bolted to the inner guard and the GTS 327 had the 6" brackets that were welded to the frame rail. What would have a 307 had?

Most V8 GTS had the same wheels as GTS327. Only the very early V8 GTS's had 5" wheels as standard and 6" optional. Not sure exactly when that specification changed, but it was early. May have been the same time when V8 GTS also came standard with Salisbury (which I think was pre 8/68).

I'll check again but from memory it is way past the change in the Engineering specs to have 5" rims. There is some documentation pointing towards 2.78:1 banjo being available on special order. However the HK Engineering documents have a revision on the rear axle page around late 7/68 or thereabouts where the banjo rear axle is removed from V8 GTS. The HK pricing and ordering info issued at Monaro release also does not have banjo available with 307 on GTS. Stranger things have happened though.

I checked with Ben to check I was remembering correctly.

On rims I was mixing up 307 manual and auto. Manual 307 appears to have went to 6" rims early. By those left today to view, auto 307 appears to have all but been standard with 6" rims after early HK but some cars do appear to have come with them. My guess is stock order auto V8 GTS's were fitted with D70 tyres and hence got 6" rims, whereas people who actually bought a retail order car some ordered the car with tyres that came with 5" rims.

As for rear axle the banjo would have to have been some sort of special order if it is in a 307 auto GTS after roughly mid July 1968 (note a few of these cars have appeared). I have pricing information issued on 22/7/68 for Monaro release and for GTS the only V8 powertrain combinations available are PTC3 and PTC6. PTC3 is L30, M35 and G88 or G94. PTC6 is L30 M21 and G88, G89 or G94. G88=3.36LSD Sals. G89=3.55LSD Sals. G94=3.08LSD Sals. The HK Engineering manual shows a revision at this time also against V8 auto GTS where it appears banjo rear axles have been removed.

Is it a Dandenong assembly Baz? I think all post 7/68 307 auto GTS's that have turned up so far have been Dandenong assembly.
