I am trying to find information on any HQ's that had a factory fitted electric sunroof. I am fortunate to own a 74 Statesman with one in it and would like to hear from anyone else has/had or knows of a HQ with one installed.
They are almost identical in appearance to the wind back sunroofs available from HJ on but are electrically operated with the operating switch mounted in the centre console to the rear of the gear shift and a cover plate that can be removed in the centre of the roof above the rear passenger seat to expose part of the sunroof mechanism.
The cover plate has a small ratchet clipped to the underside that can be used to manually open and close the sunroof if the electrics fail.
I recently came across a 4 door GTS on the Sunshine Coast with the identical electric sunroof to mine installed. The GTS was built at Pagewood like my Statesman and interestingly was ordered and built for a Western Sydney dealer to be used as his personal car. Mine was ordered and built by a country NSW dealer to be used as his personal car. The owner of the GTS has been able to confirm with a former Pagewood plant worker that his sunroof like mine was installed in the factory.

I do have some pictures but have not been able to work out how to add them to the post.

Worked up how to upload pictures (I think). hopefully they appear below

Here's the photos as a post.

You need to find out the location, then put it in the IMG brackets, like this:

{IMG}http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss107/visionclear1/HQ%20SUNROOF/DSCF2673_zpskndsf6na.jpg{/IMG}
Replace the {} brackets for [] brackets (I can't do it above, or the test would disappear, and a picture would come up in its place).

Here goes:

Cheers,

Mick

The really interesing thing about these "factory fitted sunroofs" is that the HJ press cars were NOT fitted with sunroofs as the Pagewood plant, which made most of the HJ press cars, could not get the sunroof fittement sorted before the HJ release. there is a list of cars that were cancelled due to not being able to get the sunroof fitted.

There were some really interesting memos going back and forth at the time about the new "sunshine roof" option not being available at release.

Thanks Warren,

Do the memos give a reason why GMH did not offer a sunroof as an option until the HJ series?

Ford had been offering the Golde windback sunroof as an option for around 5 years before the HJ was released

The information just states they are offering a new option, and then there are several memos going back and forth about how they would have liked the sunroof to be fitted to the press cars but the factory could not get the option sorted in time, so a second release had to be organized at a later time to show off the sunroof option.

Ford may have been offering it, but Holden's solution was that there was an option of aftermarket sunroof fitment. American Sunroofs in Melbourne was one of many. I do not think Chrysler ever offered one. They cannot have been that popular, as Holden dropped it at the end of HJ.

Do you know what the cost was in 74/75 to have the factory sunroof fitted?
