I've been told to install a brass plug into the thermostat bypass housing, and this will reduce engine temp.

I have found that installing a quality 3 core radiator dramatically reduced my engine temperature. I now run the 89 degree thermostat that came with the car and the gauge sits right in the middle. havent tried it in the heat of summer yet though, may go b

The factory radiator shroud is not to be overlooked either. That with the 7 blade flex fan out of an XC or even better a clutch fan out of a V8 XD/E.

hey guys, thanks for the replys. i have an xc coupe with a new 3 core radiator and a clutch fan and brand new cleveland. the temp gauge sits halfway but when the aircon is on / or at traffic lights it goes up to hot until i start moving again, i've just p

Mate the factory gauge sounds as though it is working. Why waste your time with aftermarket junk from nick a part. The XC flex fan does a great job. I once installed a 18 inch (permacool) thermofan and the car was boiling over even at 100KM/h on a cool

Not a good idea to plug the bypass. The bypass is intended to allow at least some water flow even if the thermostat jams closed, you risk cooking your motor good if you block the bypass. Have got a shroud? Is the timing right? Is the water pump a good one

thanks john, i do have a shroud including the rubber flap between aircon radiator and radiator, water pump is new along with engine. i'm concerned about the heat because the transmission guy said it is running abit warm when he put the trans in and said t

A 3 core radiator and factory fan is ample but the cooling system has to be clean. Each blocked core will make a difference.
Run a 160deg F thermostat.
Another option you can take if you like the thermo option is EF/EL thermo's. They work quit

How much did they overbore it and was the block sonic tested first?

Any wreckers. Too many EF/EL's have been smashed. They don't cost very much new anyway.

the best thing i ever did was put a high flow thermostat in from repco and the temp sits in blue - the first line in my xb GS/GT dash gauge even in traffic!
