Hi guys I have a XC 351C and am having a knocking problem when accelerating medium to hard. Light acceleration is ok. I checked the initial timing and it seems to be a bit high about 12 degrees the problem is when i go to retard it (even a little bit)the engine doesn't seem to like it. It runs rough and wants to stall. Any idea why it is doing this?

you could try speeding the idle up a little.

Factory setting between 6-10deg depending on what year the cars made.

Try 6 deg and up your idle as Bill has already suggested.
