I have an XD ute with an XF carby 6 in it and when cold it runs really rough. Once warm it runs ok but notice that the idle is very fast when you take it into park or neutral. Tried some new plugs made little diference but noticed the plugs that came out were in good nick and had a nice brown colour (not fowled). The other thing I have noticed when it running rough is the brakes are not so flash. My first thoughts were that there are some valves not seating etc. does any one have any other Ideas or method of confirming the problem?, don't want to rip the head off unless I have to as its just a hack.

Cheers

Craig, it's just a wild guess, but I'd check/replace everything that even looks like a vacuum hose.

The fact your brakes go dodgy at the same time indicates a loss of vacuum pressure, it could be any one of who knows how many hoses (I don't!)

yes i agree with gary,i had a booster fag out and it would run rough at idle, check the vacuum hose that goes from your brake booster to the engine.also if its running bad when its cold your auto choke may also be playing up,they have been known to do this

Yep, 99% sure it's vacume related. Also check the christmas tree { the black plastic bit that sticks out of the rocker cover that all the little hoses connect to ) and check your pcv valve. If you're running a different carby you might find that the vac

The XF carby has a 2 stage idle switch and an anti-run on solenoid which the XD doesn't.
Make sure the 2 stage switch is connected with a vacuum line to manifold vaccum. Make sure there is power to the anti-run on solenoid. The 2 speed switch is near the
