Hi there,
I have a HZ ute with a 253 in it.
I recently pulled the thermostat housing off to check the thermostat and replaced all the hoses.
Since then I intermittantly get a sort of violent pulsing thump that shakes the heater hoses. It continues for a few minutes and then diapears.
Any clues?
Could I have put the themostat in upside down, or is it air in the system?
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards Scrowe

If the cavitation/vibration WAS NOT there before you did the thermo, then odds are its the thermo causing the trouble.
The fact that it goes away also sounds like the thermo opening up.
It also can be caused by a water pump on its way out too !

Did the new one have a small hole about 3mm or 1/8 inch in the edge? If not drill one.Don't drill near the centre though. The hole is supposed to allow water circulation when the thermostat is shut cold but many new ones don't have the hole.

I had this exact problem with my 253. Turned out to be air in the cooling system. Tried the thermostat in and out to no avail. In the end I took off the hoses to the heater (highest point as it's in a 2wd Hilux) and slowly filled the system so to expel th
