just wondering what are the benefits of having a breather cap as opposed to a regular one.
I assume they are only for high performance engines and how much horses do you need before considering one?

Depends what car you are running. All the older cars had breathers, which are basically to let the pressure out of the sump so you don't blow sump gaskets and mains seals. When anti pollution stuff came in about 1976 or so the breather cap had to be seale
