My WB ute has a problem where the timing keeps changing. I have changed dizzy, carby(the prev. carby was only being fastened down in 3 spots) and new points plugs and condenser. Someone removed Elec. Ign. before I picked it up. When its running rough it PUMPS out unburnt fuel and some burnt oil,ie black and blue smoke, embarrassing.

If it's a V8, it might be that the cam timing chain has reached the end of its useful life.

A good check for the harmonic balancer slipping is to get the engine warm and move the dizzy each way by hand until the motor is idling the best. Tighten the dizzy down and then put the light on the balancer and see where the mark is. Take the car for a

My 202 balancer came so loose it wore a groove in the timing cover, i thought the noise was the water pump or alternator, replaced them both before I realised.
