Has anyone changed their own ball joints on their car,I,m rebuilding my front end and woudn,t mind a few pointers,such as getting the old ones off and attaching the new ones.thanks.

i forgot who wrote this, it was someone on oldholden.com, i just saved it incase i needed it one day.
1. jack up front of vehicle and place on stands. 2. remove road wheels. (loosen nuts before you jack it up) 3. remove the split pin from the lo

Also helps if you have a gas or oxy torch to heat the hub surrounding the ball joint as this will crack the seal due to expansion of exterior metal being hotter than the ball joint pin. Suggest 10-20 second bursts followed by a good wack with the bfh...

You don't need to touch it with oxy until you get the wishbone off to do the upper bushes. The lower wishbones don't usually need doing. Do all as above, you only need to undo the nut a couple of turns. Put a jack underneath supporting the nut when it all

I think my ball joints might need doing , Do they clunk now & then when you turn corners ,does that mean they need doing?

Probably, Rusty.
A better way to check is to chock the back wheels, jack up the front so the wheels are off the ground a few inches and pointing straight ahead. Put jack-stands under the front chassis and lower the car onto the stands.
