Hi all,
Just replaced my spark plug leads on my 308 V8 Torana (2 were faulty so all replaced). Problem is that the plug boot of the lead on cylinder #5 is pressed hard up against the oil dipstick tube, which gets as hot as the engine block itself (does anybody know how hot a block gets in degrees celsius as this would be useful to know?). Is this going to cause a problem as I have a powerful MSD igntion?
I can't even squeeze any thermal insulation between the boot and the steel dipstick tube as they are firmly in contact and the dipstick tube is secured to the engine with a bracket that I cannot get to as it is behind extractors. The boots have a 135 degree angle but are touching on the straight bit, so changing the boots probably won't help. The old leads seemed to have custom made ceramic ends to take the temperature, but I can't find anything like this and as mentioned have no space for a boot protector to squeeze in! All replies and advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Paul E

It will only get to about 100 degrees C...same as the water that cools it.
Can you bend the dipstick tube by puting a phillips head screwdriver down the tube and then lever it away with something else..this way the tube won't crush.

Managed to bend it today using the method described by FastEHHolden. Thanks for that mate. It is now about 2mm from the plug boot which should hopefully be OK.
Cheers,
